The Man Who Killed Bin Laden

Sac Arrow hit it spot on - Silent Professional. That's taught from day one, no matter what tier, team, service, etc... Also, it isn't about just one guy. There was an entire task force that did this job. One guy got the shots off, but he didn't get into that compound by himself. I realize what it means to the families of the fallen, but I have to think it could have been done a bit better than a Fox
News piece.

O'Neill emphasized that fact in the interview. He even broadened it to America as a whole got bin laden. His team were just the Americans who happened to be on site in Pakistsn when it happened.

Or worse the shooter can hump the spotlight for years and never have anything happen. Then who will we be afraid of? In the our gov't would never do this department, the shooter would perfect for a false flag assassination to ramp up some muzzie hate and justify a reinvasion.
Well, there's a bit of difference.

One thing the government didn't do is reveal the identities of the mission participants. Now that Al Queda knows who the shooter is (or who claims to be the shooter), it's likely that person...and their families...may become a target.

If the government had inadvertently revealed the name of the shooter...or if someone else involved with the mission did... there'd be no question that the government would be responsible for their future protection.

But when the government had taken pains to protect the shooter's identity to keep him safe, and the shooter HIMSELF deliberately broke security and revealed himself...what obligation does the government have?

If DELTA had been given this you wouldn't see them running their mouths about it like this. Very poor form and regrettable behavior on these individuals part.

Oh, Al Queda is probably *not* going to do anything for years. With one name, they can get other names... who was the shooter hanging around with, the weeks before the Bin Laden raid? Who was he with, in the bars around the base? Who did he talk about, in conversations on and off the record. You have one name, now work on getting more.

In short, basic intelligence operations to identify the other persons in the raid. This may take years...no problem. In fact, there are probably journalists chasing down that very information, right now. Al Queda probably won't even have to deploy their own intelligence teams.

Five years from now...ten years from now... when the team members are out of the military (no longer protected by base security), a bit older, a bit slower, and figuring it's all in the past, THEN you have your men hit every member of the Bin Laden mission.

Just because one guy needed his ego stroked.

The funny thing is high profile missions like this are political, Delta would have been the logical choice (land ops only) but branch commanders have been known to "bid" for missions.

Delta? Isn't that Chuck Norris old unit?

That's ridiculous. You completely misunderstand what Al Qaeda and groups like them are all about. Osama Bin Laden was not a holy god to be worshiped by his followers. He was a leader and a soldier that was martyred. An outcome they all expected for a decade.

The Al Qaeda movement is not about Bin Laden, but rather larger, big picture concepts, like the overthrow and down fall of western civilization. They are not going to waste the time and energy to plot some decade long revenge scheme to kill the foot soldier that ultimately did Bin Laden a favor and martyred him. To his followers, Bin Laden is now in paradise and his jihad on this earth is over. They've moved on.

Nope...they ain't coming after me.

Ron Wanttaja

Actually, in a broader sense, they are more likely coming for you just as much as they are coming for Bin Laden's killer. They are coming for us all... in their wildest dreams and aspirations anyhow.

Your guns won't save you. They are going to win by outbreeding us and imposing sharia law. Thinking your guns will save you makes us much sense as wearing a red jacket and standing in the open to fight.:yikes:

Yes, right.

I'll take cover with a dozen good marksman. You can have the red jacket. ;)

No worries there. We can just engineer a disease to kill only Muslim terrorists. If we can do it to just kill black people in Africa, we can do it in the Middle East. Ask Jay. ;):D

Spin zone stuff I take it? I'll be alright I have a defensive perimeter of pork rinds.

According to DirecTV, the program will be repeated today (Sunday) from 8 PM to 10 PM Eastern Time, followed by a repeat of an interview with Sean Hannity, and then both programs will be repeated starting at 11 PM. The local broadcast time will probably depend on your service provider.

Not this Jay, to make that clear.

Back on topic, I'm firm in the belief that the Obama administration has not offered proof that they killed OBL.

No photos, no video, no autopsy, no body.

Until we see some of that, the SEALs killed some bearded old guy in Pakistan.

The proof comes indirectly - Bin Laden was always keen on transmitting his message and conveying to the world the message that he was alive, once, twice a year he would say something, show his face, etc., he used couriers, we haven't seen any message/tapes from him in those years which to me is sufficient proof that he is no longer among living. Plus his own organization acknowledged his death.

Not to mention SEAL team 6 claimed the kill, not just the Obama administration. There would be no reason to suspect them of lying.

Hmmm...

Let's see...

High ranking official at the IRS didn't lie....

Holder didn't lie...

Hillary Clinton didn't lie....

James Clapper , head of NSA/CIA didn't lie....

See where I am going with this...:dunno:........

Yes, one could say with preponderance of evidence he is dead. We don't need to see/touch his remains.

So you're saying SEALs lie? Most people that serve in special operations don't care about politics or what's politically correct. They don't care about who's in the office at any given time. They're just a figure head who has little to do with their day to day operations. They serve their country and not a political agenda. In this op there would be no reason for them to lie.

Yeah... And special forces NEVER disclose the details of their missions......

Well.. except this one....:rolleyes:........:mad2::mad2:..

Special ops books (Lone Survivor, American Sniper) have been coming out before these latest gag orders from DEVGRU. If the author of No Easy Day went thru the appropriate channels, his book still would have had the same content that it does today. DOD is just mad because he didn't go thru them first.

Anyway, lying about a op and releasing a book about personal experiences in the military are two completely different things. The author of No Easy Day didn't know what he did was wrong. He wasn't going against any explicit order that he was aware of.

Why wouldn't SF lie? Saying nothing is different and the usual, but the idea that they wouldn't lie is silly.

Because if they did lie, there's no way that they could get everyone involved in the op to go along with it. I've never heard of the SF community having a trend about lying about their experiences.

Also, if they did lie, when Bin Laden would resurface, they'd all look pretty stupid claiming something they didn't do.

Define lying. If signing a report stating that your troops were killed in a training accident when they were actually hit by "enemy" fire is lying, that happens.

It's not beyond belief that the thing was "leaked" at the behest, or at least with the blessing, of a Commander-in-Chief who needed a Shiny Object to distract the voting populace before Election Day, when he'd be spanked in the voting booth for his sins.

Fox News is runing the video again.

Third time I have watched it. Amazing men.

Here's the deal: The SEAL team wouldn't be lying. They would believe that they killed OBL.

Without forensic proof, all we have is Obama's word. Sorry, but that isn't good enough. It's just as likely that OBL died in the caves, and the SEALs killed a bearded old man and his family.

The real question is: Why hasn't the Obama Administration been more forthcoming?

The DNA evidence collected confirmed it was UBL. ;)
