I'm heading to Houston Texas next Thursday to right seat for a friend bringing home his recent purchase of a very nice Archer II. Speed mods, Garmin 430, garmin 496 in the panel, engine monitoring and a few other goodies I can't remember.

Flying out of Philly at 7:35 direct to Huston (IAH). A short ride to the location of the plane then saddle up for home. I think the plan is to make a stop at KSTF -George M Bryan Airport in Starkville, Mississippi for the first night then Friday head to 35A - Union County Airport in Union, SC. refuel, eat then head home to KILG, Wilmington,DE.

Anything to see and do in and around Starkville, MS. ? Anyone up for a meet up Thursday evening?

Anyone know if TSA has a problem with me doing the carry on with my flight bag and portable radio? Maybe I should put the radio in with a change of clothes or two in the other carry on bag. Commercial flights suck.

Depends on the airport.

I got a boatload of **** from TSA at BWI over a minimal flight bag (headset, GPS, portable radio, charts, etc.) when I picked up my plane in Tyler after an annual. I was moving it to DC.

On the other hand, I had no problem at OKC or SAT.

I had no trouble at all with my flight bag and headset at BWI when I went to Louisiana to pick up a plane this spring, nor have I had any trouble anywhere else on my various travels to clients and on ferry trips. In fact, I usually wear my noise cancelling headset on noisy turboprops like the DHC-8. However, I've been told some flight attendants get upset when you suction-cup your GPS antenna to the window (Lord only knows what they think you're doing), although asking them to check with the front office usually solves that.

Gary, Dave was referring to Steve See and his family. Great folk. It's nice of Dave to invite you to Steve's house. ;)

Have a great trip! Sounds like a lot of fun!

Sounds like a great trip Gary!

I didn't have any trouble through PHL or MHT on my trek to Gaston's this year, but
then again I only had my headsets, not my entire flight bag.

Have fun and enjoy!

Hi,

My daughter (Dave S's and Dave T's favorite) is a junior at MSU in Starkville, working part time at the aerospace lab. Classes for the fall semester start Monday, the 17th, so I don't think she'll be available for a hook up. PM me for her contact info, though, in case you need some local support while in the area.

I'd come up to meet you but as you see by my avatar the plane is not quite airworthy again just yet, and I'll be out of town on a prior commitment, anyway.

The town goes by "Starkpatch", "Starkvegas", and "Moo U" as tagged by the college students. Not a lot of touristy things to see, although there is a fine library on the college campus that has several interesting collections on display, if you're into that sort of thing. There is an active glider club on the field at STF, so watch out for the Stearman tow plane. Self serve avgas on the field is among the lowest price in the area.

I've never had a problem having a handheld, headsets, and charts in my carry-on yet. "They" are more interested in the toothpaste tubes and contact lens solution it seems.

Safe travels, Gary! Enjoy the... umm... "personal" attention from TSA.

Oh, I would suggest stopping by Rudy's BBQ on I-45 on your way to DWH or eating at The Aviator's Grill at DWH for lunch - both have great food!

we ate at the aviators grill on the field......monster burgers!!

jeff is on the test flight....we should be heading out around 4 eastern time.

Great just intime for the build ups. be careful up there. and post panel photos at the first opportunity.

My only advice on the carryon, don't make the mistake I almost did:

1/5 ft long fillet knife, sitting underneath my Headsets and on top of Sectional and L-Charts for the area we would be flying in.

Thank GOD I opened my flight bag before I got to Security.

Im tracking the flight aware looks like they had some weather along the Louisiana/Texas border.

the plan was to go to klms.....the wx was crap so we diverted west of the wx and decided on tunica ms. we are waiting on a shuttle to spend the night at the casino!

The WX down by that area was crap yesterday, and tomorrow's going to be interesting for sure (I'm heading the opposite direction). Fly safe. Saturday's looking a lot better.

This little town has this monster runway......why?? Because it has 737's land here that the casinos charter. After we landed a 737 came in from Clevland loaded with casino gamblers.

Timing was great...we mingled in and got a free shuttle bus ride to Harrahs.....or we were going to but they were full. The casino sent a stretch limo for the last two couples waiting and we jumped in with them.

Getting ready to head to the airport and bug out east towards 35A for fuel.

have a safe flight! we'll be heading north after our run to the carolinas.....and the TSA....well violated has a new meaning:rolleyes2:

Hey Gary - This is sort of "close" to one of your tracks. Obviousely I've doctored it up a little but doesn't the run of the river outline a face? Hope ya'll are having fun on your marathon return flight.

So, then, who has extra time on their hands?

I'm "workin' from home today", lol. Actually took a 1/2 day to start the weekend early only to be faced now with Severe Weather Alerts. Hope Gary doesn't plan on flying home tonight. It may be ugly near the immediate areas of Wilmington and Philly.

Well, the front should pass soon and the forecast for the Atlanta area is excellent for the whole weekend. Should have clear sailing tomorrow.

tex mex lunch makes for a full tummy......time to evaluate our position and maybe run north.

Off to check wx.

On the ground in Mt. Sterling Kentucky (KIOB ) for the night. Not being night "proficient" and with storm cells in our path we decided to call it a day. Tomorrow will be 3 hour leg tops, for now it's off to find dinner.

I hope the courtesy car does not stall again as we pull out into traffic.....it was a keystone cops moment to be sure as I jumped out and we pushed it back out of the travel lane. We think it was out of gas...gauge doesn't seem to work.

Glad you're home safe Gary. I was wondering if you'd make it in with today's ugly weather.

Glad you made it home, there were some ugly storms heading towards PHL last night. I know - because I was supposed to stop there (didn't) and ended up spending the night at AdamB's in NH. :)
