Tactile Cueing to Combat Spatial D

The Navy was experimenting with something like that back in the '90's. I don't remember the program name but some called it 'Magic Fingers'.

Did it cost a quarter for 15 minutes..??

Doesn't the AI do that already? :D
AI's are great, but even focusing on the AI won't keep you from getting spatial-D in a helo.

Every single helo pilot I know has gotten spatial-D at some point flying IFR in the soup. I had one friend who used to tell a story of how he and his co-pilot had to keep passing control back and forth between each other on an approach because they were both getting disoriented.

It was funnier when I thought he was talking about artificial intelligence :D I'm with you on spatial-D in helos though. o_O

Nauga,
watching houses go by sideways

While generally they vibrate more, I don't know of anything helo specific that would make one more prone to spatial D over fixed-wing. Probably have more cases of IIMC with helos because of the reduced weather mins though.

My issue tended to be more related to the type of work we were doing. I know that in an airplane I can look down and write notes and check instrumentation and such and when I look up the trees and houses and clouds and stuff will still be moving mostly nose-to-tail. When I look up in a helo **** can be moving sideways. Tumbles my gyros every time.

Nauga,
lost in (lateral) translation

Anyone who has done any night and/or IMC formation flying has had it at some point in their career, fixed wing or not.
