Who's planning on going?

Assuming I can bid it off, which I think I should be able to, I'm planning on being there the 14/15 (Sat & Sun), possibly the 13th too.

Anyone else going to be flying or driving in?

If I can make it it'll be my 9th year in a row flying in.

Yes, at this point I am planning to go this year. I was not able to go in 2017 due to work contraints but I had a great time camping by my airplane in 2016.

I’m planning on attending, will be driving if weather doesn’t co operate. Haven’t missed one since 1993.

Glad to see some guys are going! As it gets closer it would be great to pass on info of where our birds will be parked or a place at the event to meet up even briefly to meet some fellow POA’rs

I am planning to attend, and fly 55WB.

I'm sorta thinking about it. Already taking some time off from work that week but have not made any actual plans.

I will if I can catch a ride with Dave Theisen

Maybe...

Well there it goes...it's your fault Dave ;)

Actually I just checked Southwest and can ride for $91 each way to Tampa. Flying myself I don't think I can get out of North Carolina for $91.

Ok, so I’m an Oshkosh vet, but a newb when it comes to Sun N Fun, but it looks like the wife and I may drive down from Friday thru Sunday (13th-15th). I have a question on camping. Can you camp next to your vehicle(car), or how does it work in the campground? Are the campgrounds similar to Oshkosh? Any other tips/tricks?

Sure will be....Friday and Saturday only!!!

Looks like I'll be there for the week, talking BasicMed at the FAA Safety Center.

You drive in, choose your campsite, and park wherever you want. It is pretty much the Wild West.

Are there any "nearby" hotels that aren't marked up a fortune for that weekend?

Unlike Oshkosh, there are a gazillion hotels around the Tampa/Orlando area. I had no trouble with last minute reservations last year.

I stayed 7 miles away last year, at the same hotel as the FAA controllers, for $125 a night. WELL worth it.

I'll be in Tampa that week. I'm gonna try to get there, but probably not until the last day...

Need to spend at least one day there to get the Jepp data deal on my new to me GPS400, hopefully more if m'lady can bid the time off. Likely camping by the plane.

I'm planning on it, driving. Probably going to be leaving from Phoenix around the 7th. I'll have some room for 'stuff' if anyone flying has weight issues. I won't be coming back west with it until mid May though.

EDIT: change of plans, not going

Well I'm officially going...just bought my ticket for Saturday

I suggest getting hotel reservations ASAP. I was shocked how pricey it is that week in Tampa and Plant City. Hope to see you all, meet everyone, and have great conversations. Over beer, or at least coffee.

Last time went with my son and friend we stayed somewhere west in a small town at a hotel there. Was maybe 20-30 minute drive. Tied down the Lance there also. I just don't recall the name, I'm sure it's in one of my logbooks. Point being, other options exist if you're willing to stay further out. Of course camping adjacent a to friend's C170 (which they wanted me to fly into SnF) one year was fun too.

I live near Lakeland so I’ll drive over one or two days. Not sure when yet. If my son will be in town I’ll time it to bring him along.

Sounds like Plant City, maybe?

I'll be arriving back in Florida from the UK on 4/10 just in time to catch SnF
I'm right across the street from the FBO at Winter Haven KGIF, if anyone needs assistance or a ride to the Lakeland area or the show drop me a PM

Would love to connect when you get to the states. I'm your next-door neighbor in Haines City. Let me know when you're in town and if we don't meet at SNF we'll go grab a cup of coffee at the KGIF café or somewhere.

Hey that's a great idea, definitely touch base for a coffee, you're in Haines City ? we just sold our place on Southern Dunes July last year.
I'll be sure to leave you a message here when we are back in town.

Sounds great! PM me when you're back!

I’ll be there. The wife is tagging along to visit a friend in Tampa and to do some sightseeing. She got us an Airbnb for Thu - Sat nights. Not sure how many days I’ll actually be at the show but I will be there.

I'm thinking about going. This would be my 1st year. It would only be for the weekend. I would like to arrive Fri and stay in GAC for 2 nights.

How much landing traffic can I expect Fri am?

I would be coming from NC (KLHZ). I fly a Cherokee 180 and typically burn 8gph. I would want to arrive at KLAL with close to full tanks. I'm thinking KLHZ to KJES to KGIF to KLAL. Anyone have better suggestions?

Also, can I just fly in with my GAC sign, then pay for camping and entrance passes after landing? I'm not going to drive and I can't fly in if the weather doesn't cooperate.

KGIF is modifying taxiways at the moment and there's a lot of construction at the airport. They say it will be completed before SNF; we shall see. You might call first.

Apopka (X04) is a popular place for fueling. Prices are usually lower than other nearby spots. Williston (X60) is also a popular stop, especially if you'd like to grab lunch. The Pyper Kub café is just outside the airport gate and has excellent burgers.

Yes, that is what I do. After you have been parked, someone will come to you to sign you up and collect your fees. They will be able to take a credit card if desired.
