...on a live feed on Youtube. I was posting this in another thread about him and didn't want it to get lost in there, so decided to make a new thread.

He's doing a live feed now about evacuating FL, and people are donating for some reason, I missed it. But he mentioned that the money was not going for 'fun stuff'. That it was going to help his legal fees fighting the FAA. He said he was under formal investigation from them.

He also had a 709 ride today, a reexamination ride with the FAA. He didn't say why they did that. Said he passed with flying colors. Sounds like he's really being harassed. Said he actually said something to them about Harrison Ford landing on a taxiway and he's never had any infraction. What do I have to do?

Also said his house was in the 'catastrophic zone' and doesn't expect it to survive. Evacuating the TBM to New Orleans.

Actually it was saved. I assume this link will be good for awhile.

He said they had a problem with the Caravan videos and he had to do a checkride to show he was still a safe pilot.

Sorry, the video was just removed.

youtube should be given the 709 equivalent for allowing videos of pilots not using checklists to be posted on their site. veeeeeeeeery dangerous, youtube!

well, there goes that chance w/ Delta....

Getting a 709 ride w/ no metal was bent on a fixed gear airplane? GS-12s I tell ya. To a kid with a hammer, everything's a nail...

I just watched one of his his videos. Can see why he got 709'd.

Not sure about steveo...

But when I read 709 I'm reminded of the house I grew up in. 709 Emerald Way.
And the 709 ride I had to do after I porpoised at Osh....

Two very different memories.

He didn't say. Just that they didn't like something about the Caravan videos.
If I had to guess, and based on what I've heard about YouTube video issues, it's that those Caravan flights are a 135 operation and so that opens up a whole different can of worms vs. just some PPL filming in the cockpit or those TBM flights where, it appears, he's just basically flying the plane around for its private owner.

If he's flying around part 135 narrating videos while doing takeoffs and landings and such I could see why the FAA would get worked up about that. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I can see why they'd be upset. Swayne Martin also posts a lot of videos and it looked like he was flying part 135 this summer in Hawaii. I remember before the first video in the cockpit when he was actually flying 135 he mentioned that they worked with the FAA to get approval for the filming and such. If SteveO didn't do that and just started filming 135 cockpit operations then yeah he probably ruffled a few feathers.

Regardless, I love his videos and hope whatever the misunderstanding is gets sorted out. He's a great asset to the GA community.

He's only filmed on the empty legs though so it's probably not 135 at that point. I'm not sure what they could have cracked down on him for.

I watched one of his videos. He films himself in a TBM not using any checklists while pointing out he always makes sure he salutes the ground crews.

So your going to extrapolate the fact that he is a bad pilot from his YouTube videos? You know for a fact that if you were to post videos of yourself flying you would be under the microscope too.

Dude, I worked in law enforcement for 30 years, tell me about it.

So you watch one of the guys vids and then say he deserves to be 709'd...quick to jump to conclusions much? And your prior law enforcement? Lol how ironic.

No, Idetermined after I watching 1 random video I would likely discover more evidence of stupid stuff this guy documenting and publishing. There a many people who produce inflight videos with the FAA 709ing the pilots.

A couple of points I would like to make:

1. Like it or not, guys like Steveo, Flight Chops, Captain Moonbeam, Mr. Aviation 101 (yes I know everyone hates the kid), etc are attracting more folks to general aviation. The same can be said for Tucker Gott and powered paragliders. Dare I say - you can learn some good things from any one of them

2. He passed his 709 checkride - so obviously he isn't as stupid as you might think, nor is he an unsafe pilot.

There are a lot worse things that YouTube pilots film. He seems like a safe and competent pilot from his videos

[SMARTASS]That's why the FAA is trying to shut them down? [/SMARTASS]

:) Yeah that.

Of course, we're only hearing one side of the story... So whatever for this youtube "star".

But he is one of the cool kids making neato vids. The FAA is just a bunch of old meanies. He probably didn't do anything wrong. The FAA is picking on the poor kid. This tyranny must end!

That was sarcasm for all of you fanboys who couldn't tell.

He passed his 709? Man, I don't know how that is possible if the FAA was out to get him. I'm sure they would have found a way to bust him if they were so inclined.

In one of his episodes he talks about a flight where all the ladies went topless. Where is that episode :)
