Stand aside NC, this is about NYC!

Beats the crap out of southern California.

See, now that's just crazy talk. If you can get beyond the corruption in government, corrupt police, excessive regulations, taxes imposed on businesses, and overpaid government employees, it's a great place to live. The key is to keep to yourself, and avoid eye contact at all times.

Oh man. Now that is cute. Thanks. I needed to laugh tonight.
You're the man.

US 5, or I 5? Heck of a difference. :D And I recall a song many years ago about the big one and a line about "Boise Beach". :D :D

I-5, it's I-5. I can not believe I actually made a mistake. It will be months before I can forgive myself. What a blunder. :mad2:

Well, I think we dodged a bullet, although I was hoping it would wipe out NYC and most of Jersey EXCEPT for my family's beach house. :D

We had some 50 MPH winds, but nothing we haven't seen before. Lots of rain, but nothing we haven't seen before. Oh yeah, saw blue/green lightning. That was cool. We didn't lose power, but many did. That was a very good thing!

Hope ya'll stayed safe!

And now that NYC has "dodged a bullet" guess where the news is focused again...the Outer Banks...OMG, beach wiped away...massive erosion...it's the End Times I tell ya.

Ya'll were in the wrong parts of the state. SD, LA, and Orange County too concerned with image and the almightly dollar. Santa Barbara is just a psuedo love fest...replete with false 'care for your brother'. SF with it's own brand of weird...avoid the big cities. The 'Redwood coast' was too foggy and hardscrapping for a living. The central coast was the land time forgot until the 90s when too many big city folks bailed from their own scummy existence. But they brought their attitude with them. Most didn't last but one year. But there were too many of them. For yrs the biggest problem we had was cattle rustling and horse theivery. Then the illegals moved in for the service jobs catering to the burgeoning tourist industry, the libs took over, and meth had arrived. Time to bail on CA.

Now Temecula is a nice place but it's turning into the next "OC". In between you find pockets of old CA. But the state laws still apply to everyone like a smelly flea infested blanket. I won't start a business in CA until the laws change. Fat chance of that, everyone is on the dole.

I was hoping that it would pick up a bunch of frogs in NC and rain frogs on Long Island...

I call those cardboard boxes.

That depends where, but for the most part I agree. Not exactly cardboard boxes, but average and even sub par housing construction building a large project. As an insurance adjuster I saw some shoddy construction even in the McMansions. I stayed in one here for a while up by the polo grounds west of PB. Beneath the fluff and faux finish is you average suburban house.

We had a massive influx of Californians here in the 90s. The subdivisions that went up still look today like they came out of a copy machine. Most boring places you've ever seen. Most still don't have a single sickly tree taller than a house.

We've played with the idea of moving into a McBoring townhouse or similar after the animals pass away though, and just treating it like Extended Stay. Someone else cuts the grass and we go do stuff away from the place.

Upkeep on a house is time you'll never get back after you're dead.

Right now, the 17 year old dog and 21 year old cat would be traumatized if we moved. So we're hangin' out for a while.

A place with a clubhouse suitable for big parties would be nice.

Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" comes to mind, although I doubt we'd tear out the walls and ring up an accountant. ;)

And here I am the black sheep of the family because I didn't grow up there and don't live there now. My relatives would never live anywhere else. Actually I like California and will probably move back eventually.

That would add some class to the local neighborhood.
I'll have another good friend in CA I can visit on occasion .
I'll try to keep a sympathetic ear when regulation, taxation and local government issues are discussed!

Best,

Dave

Sorry John. You seem like one of the nicer folks out there I interact with. It's a wonderful place in many regards, just not where I fit. Next time I head out that-a-way, I'll try to give a call.

Best,

Dave

Another great day in the Great Northwest,, well after the fog monster goes away.

Why? Let me break it down for ya....

Great post. I am a NC native and, we are used to this. A Category 1 or 2 storm just won't present a major disruption here.

Now a Cat 3 or 4 (what they were forecasting - and blew it) would be a sight to see. I actually reserved a club plane for this afternoon so I could give myself a tour of the damage. But I cancelled after they downgraded the storm.
