My 5th grader son is writing a report on SR 71 and he needs to interview someone associated with the SR 71 program for 10-15 minutes. I will be obliged if you can help. Thanks.

I'll PM you my wife's email. She has an SR-71 right outside her office and has a few former pilots in her cadre of volunteers. Of course, if you wanted a U-2 pilot I could give you that info off the top of my head.

That's excellent... I've met a few of them in my life, if you can get them to limit the conversation to 10 or 15 minutes I'd be surprised. They typically have some good stories.

Yep, and if you set the SR-71 pilot and the U-2 pilot down at the same table you'll get a lot of discussion as to the merits of each aircraft that can go on all night.

If you get stuck, I know a former crew chief for the SR-71. He knows A LOT about the plane, pilots and program.

I lost track of a good friend who was a Blackbird and U-2 pilot. He had some great stories but he was very genteel about it.

Thank you so much for your help. If you can connect me with the crew chief that will be awesome. Thanks.

...and if you're anywhere near Dulles Airport on October 29, you should come to Air and Scare. I can't vouch for this year, but in previous years ex SR-71 pilot Buzz Carpenter used to stand next to the SR-71 wearing alien hands and feet telling stories and talking about Area 51.

If you need yet more info, a friend of mine worked at Lockheed for 35+ years. He was on the Blackbird's design team, and went on to run the infamous Area 51.

He's a fascinating guy with some remarkable stories to tell. (He's also the guy who donated most of the artwork and memorabilia in the "Blackbird Room" at our aviation themed hotel.) If you need his contact info, PM me.
