Soldering copper pipe

Not even to write a check?

only if! I am happy to be enjoying my Fri evening and not digging in mud and concrete dust.
I seriously doubt my insurance will cover this, they try to call everything wear and tear!

"Flux" is typically a term reserved for a paste, I use liquid.

I sell thousands of gallons of flux every year, 99.999999% of it liquid. You call up and ask me for flux, I'm going to ask if you want no clean, water soluble, rosin, acid, and if you want it in a 5 gallon jerrican or a drum.

What is the advantage of liquid over paste? Does it save time covering the metal surface or?

Well for our customer applications it's used for making circuit boards and wire harnesses. It's applied via a foamer, or a sprayer, or dipped. It's an easier application. The more aggressive the flux, the easier the solder will wet (wick). Liquid acid flux is the most aggressive, so you can get some great solder joints. But for the electronics industry you're not going to want that, it's just too aggressive, and most of what we sell is no-clean. It's the least aggressive, basically just enough to get the job done, and that way they don't need to add a cleaning process at the end of the job.

Can I order a quart of liquid for copper pipes, and a pint for electrical work??
Will pm address and visa # or mail check in advance.

Oh jeez. If liquid is for PCBs then why did you bring it up in a plumbers thread?

The goal was to help a dude stop a leak, not beat Jabil Inc. at stuffing circuit boards.

There are multiple liquid acid fluxes out there, some of them are for PCBs, some for plumbing.

The acid will etch the copper and get a better joint than smearing the rosin paste version on the pipes.

"Flux" is a word that means "flow" or "flowing". Liquids flow readily, pastes do not.

Most flux pastes turn to liquid as they're exposed to the heat of soldering. It's just convenient that they're a bit more solid at room temps to keep them where you slathered them until you start soldering.

Paste makes for lazy work which makes for leaks. Scrub, heat, squirt, repeat with other piece stick together, heat, squirt, heat some more then run a stick of solder around the whole joint until you have an even"puddle" around the whole joint. I've sweated thousands of plumbing joints in my life, I think the last one I had leak I did when I was 12.

The problem is more likely in your technique.

Nope, there's no problem with my technique, it works perfectly every time. Paste is for wires, plumbing gets liquid acid, works perfectly every time first try. Henning knows how to lay pipe...;)

All you guys come to Gastons, bring your tools, we'll provide the pipe and fittings. We will have a Sweat-Off on the flight line picnic tables. Points given for speed, final appearance, and of course passing the 300psi pressure test. Deductions for excess solder use.

:D I have a kid being born in the next 10 days or I'd come.
