Aftershock! Just now (2021 PDT Friday. Identical to the first one where I sit. Dog slept through it (as before). However, he is old. Wife didn't notice, son away.

I just felt it in South OC pretty strongly! More shaking from this than from the 6.4 in Ridgecrest. Wheeeee!

Looks like this one was bigger than the original...getting early reports of 6.9 and 7.1. So the 6.4 was a foreshock...

My friends just bought a place in Goodyear, AZ (just west of Phoenix) and they felt it too.

Daughter in law just texted from Tehachapi, 2100 pacific time. 7.1 quake just hit. They’re ok. Don’t know yet where it was centered.
 
Looks like Ridgecrest. They’re calling the 6.4 earthquake a foreshock, and this one the main shock. Preliminary 7.1 but now downgraded to 6.9

*edit* SoCalRV nailed it. I was on the road in my SUV in Orange County and it rocked my SUV pretty well. Lasted about a minute.

Sitting in the same exact spot as yesterday AM, it was most definitely bigger. House was creaking and the wine glasses were rattling. The chandelier swinging and the door closed itself.

My mom contacted both our peeps in Ridgecrest and they are OK but significant damage to their homes now. Don’t know what they said, but mom was crying.
 
2130. Another hit, she said the earlier 7.1 got downgraded to 6.9 but they’re calling this a 7.1. @flhrci , I think the Gods are getting your revenge for you
 
Town of Trona, L72, is being evacuated according to friends in Wrightwood. Books off the shelves in the Library there. They said it lasted for 40 seconds
 
Downtown Phoenix AZ -- we were on the roof terrace (15th floor) of our condo building waiting for the Arizona Diamondbacks' postgame fireworks show tonight (Friday). We strongly felt the rocking and swaying, lasted about 45 seconds. We are over 340 miles from the epicenter. Our son, who lives in a single-story house about 20 miles west of here, also felt it.

I visited friends in Ridgecrest often when I was a kid. We used to go out in the open desert and dig deep holes and make horizontal tunnels. If an earthquake had happened when we were six or eight feet underground, I wouldn't be here now...

Have you seen the ultra lame coverage on the news? I guess California is now full of people who have never experienced a real earthquake. My childhood home was directly above the San Andreas fault and I have been rolled out of bed by more than one quake...
 
Wow. Trona finally made the news for something. We used to hang glide off the mountains in the Searles valley and shoot rockets off the dry lake. Man, that was fun!
 
I didn't feel anything here in the Bay Area. Not sure if I was asleep in front of the TV, or if the mass of the Sierra Nevada Mountains blocked it from being felt here.
 
Every earthquake is a foreshock, it just may be a while before the next bigger one comes along.
 
Interesting comments on China Lake. I was with the Marine Aviation Detachment out of Pt. Mugu late 50's early 60's. We were TDY to China Lake for some of our evaluations.
During that period in my life I went to fun rather than work. I didn't like weekends because it meant I couldn't come back till Monday.

Different stroked for different folks they say.

The Navy I was in, if you didn't stab your buddy in the back and played nice and fair instead of favorites, you got stepped on and left behind in every aspect. Still proud of my service, ashamed of how the Navy became so competitive and cutthroat and I suffer from depression over how I was treated as a person. 13 of 16 years were not so good. I regret reenlisting the first time. That about sums it up.

I got to go to Pt. Mugu a few times in 2005. That place was like an island getaway in comparison o China Lake. I felt like I mattered again. VX-9 at China Lake finished off my career in 2 years. I couldn't stand it any more. I wanted out of the Navy. I knew of other E-6's over my last few years in the Navy that were getting out before retirement.

I think that someone at China Lake had just a wee bit too much fun for July 4th... o_O:rofl:
 
I have been following China Lake's facebook page. They jsut announced the base will remained closed until the 14th at least. Mission critical personnel only as there is a lot of damage. Woohoo! LOL

Crummy VX-9 has some out building damage, but none to the main hangar. :(
