sitting in Santa Barbara right now and about half hour ago I felt sick, like I was drunk or light headed....

Chandelier was swaying and the front door moving back and fourth. The Ridgecrest area had a big earthquake. My peeps all the way down in Pasadena called and asked if we were OK thinking it was up thisaway. Looks to be about 150 miles from here.

In a spookie turn of events, I was talking to my mom Monday about how SoCal is due, and I mean really do for a huge quake. Last 100 years has been extremely quiet, like Mother Earth is saving it all up to hit the flush button on California one day. I think the next big one will split Cali from Mexico to San Fran.

News says 6.4 at Lone Pine. Should have minimal impact.

Yep, I felt it...like my house's foundation was built on Jello. Weird orbital/swaying motion, for sure.

My parents felt it - said they felt the floor roll and the lights shake. Pretty standard fare for an earthquake.

Let’s hope it wasn’t a foreshock

Looking at the Caltech stats, lots of small quakes this AM, then the big one. Like playing tug o war and starting to loose grip till finally letting it all go....

Yea, like being on a sail boat that is gently rocking in the smooth waters

I would hope the base there was destroyed but I know better.. Two years of my Navy life there, miserable. I am glad it wasn't The Big One.

I lived there two years as well. Pops was stationed there.

Here in LA I had a similar light-headed, floating feeling, while my fiancee, who is from earthquake-prone Mexico City, immediately identified it as an earthquake told me to get out of the building. She was already outside while I was still trying to figure out what was going on. LOL.

I specifically leave padding on the horizontal stabilizer of my plane partially for this exact reason because it only has about 6 inches of clearance from the hangar walls.

Son lives near Tehacapi, about 60 miles SW. Said it was a ride but no damage and the kids 6, 8 and 11 didn't freak out. His wife's aunt lives in Pahrump, about 100 miles NE and said it was real strong. Her mother was at work in Palmdale, about 75 miles South, they evacuated the building, she said it was a good ride but not all that bad. We have friends in Wrightwood, about 90 miles South. They say whats the big deal, felt like about 3 or so to them. They all describe it as a roller, lasting a long time but not one of them shakers that scares ya.

California falling into the ocean gets recycled every few years. Get your beach front property now jokes abound. I'm not prone to motion sickness but I got nauseous from an earthquake once. I was in the Tower at NLC when an aftershock from the Coalinga quake in 83 hit. It was a roller to

Nothing worse than the very ground you live on and depend on to start shaking.

Hope everyone is ok and no injuries.

It’s been a slang term among us millennials for many years now. :D

I feel 15 years younger for you assuming that.......thanks for doing me a solid!

Sitting in my office chair I felt it rocking gently side to side - then noticed the vertical blinds and venetian blind rod swaying. The rod continued swaying for at least
a minute. Nothing rattled or fell. Wife noticed, son (in bathroom) did not. Dog slept thru it. No reports of damage around here (Santa Barbara).

Word out of China Lake Naval Station is they took it on the chin.

We had a family friend say he was in his garage in Ridgecrest and the truck he was standing next to lifted up off the ground about a foot in the air and dropped. Cracks in the walls and broken windows to the house.

Hope the truck was something more along the lines of a Raptor than a Syclone...

Was hoping for the worst, minus injuries. Would have settled for VX-9 to be destroyed. Oh well.

I take it you don’t have a lot of warm fuzzy mementos from your time there. Wha’d they do to you?

2 years of belittlement and harassment making my life miserable until I could get out of the Navy without my retirement, 4 years early. Was treated very badly by the Chain of Command. Made my life hell, plus the hot weather.

I am less bitter now than 13 years ago.

So, what is the opposite of doing some one a solid?
Context is wrong.

You don’t ‘do someone a solid’.

‘Solid’ would basically be like saying ‘awesome’ or a confirmation of something.

(ie., Friend: I just got a new ski boat!
You: Solid dude!)

That typ’a thing! ;)

More like taking care of you or having your back, especially when you screwed it up. Also can be used as in do me a favor, like, Bro.... do me a solid on this one OK?

I’ve never heard it used that way, but I guess it works?

I go from SoCal to East Coast regularly and it seems pretty universal to me.....
