Pre-takeoff checklist
Can anyone provide recommendations on where to rent approved Flight Simulators in the Southwest? I have contacted a few companies with limited success. The cost needs to be under $70 hour.

"Flight Simulator" actually implies something you probably don't intend it to mean, unless you're talking about a $20MM+ sim. If you're asking for an Aviation Training Device (Basic or Advanced) which can be used to log 10 or 20 hours towards your instrument time for an IR, then those are pretty easy to come by. If you're looking for bang for the buck, I would do 10 hours in a BATD and another 10 hours in a AATD.
Motion is largely useless (because it's poorly implemented in most AATDs). For gauge fluidity and control fidelity, I'd try to find a place with a Precision Flight Controls sim. Their yokes are to die for, you will not find anything better in that market.

I agree with the above about full motion sims useless for IFR. It's not going to replicate the forces that cause fluid to move in your inner ear.
Think I have around 290 hrs in full motion sims and the best they do is simulate turb and ground operations. All my sim instrument training, probably another 200 hrs, was in stationary devices. All you need the IFR sim to do is replicate what the instruments do in response to your inputs and simulate radio procedures (if you have a good CFI). Find the cheapest sim that allows you to log the authorized hours as stated above, at the cheapest rate possible.
