Sometimes, you need to do something to change lanes, keep your brain and your soul intact.

Today, I presented myself at 0800 sharp, at a shop in the deep piney woods of east Texas (we call that "behind the Pine Curtain).

After 7-8 hours or so of conversation, scrutiny, demonstration of handiwork and all-around coolness, I left, weary, drained and possessing a new certificate.

Presented for your consideration, I am

Your obedient servant,

Spike Cutler, A&P

Congrats !

Did you do an apprenticeship ?

What did you build?

Congratulations!

Of all the practical tests I’ve taken (including the initial flight instructor checkride, which everyone makes a big deal about) the mechanic test was probably the most involved and labor intensive. It’s a big accomplishment to earn a mechanic certificate.

CONGRATS!!

Congrats and welcome to the club that can maintain/repair most things on their own airplane! And those of others, too. If they care to :)

I'm on the same path, congrats Spike, really happy for you. I'll be taking the one in Nashville next year or so as I know nothing about the the pile curtain location.

Why Nashville? Aren’t there any DMEs out there?

Cool we need more A&P’s. Pilots are a dime a dozen

Today, I applied to be educated to become an A&P.

It will be a long drive to the campus each day, long hours, I'll probably have to hire a nanny to help with our son while I'm gone. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

Congrats Spike. Something I hope to do in my retirement, if such a thing ever takes place. Might not, since I like to keep flying. Coming to Oshkosh this year?

Thank you!

I will be OSH-ing this year, if weather cooperates. Probably Sunday-Wednesday, but dependent upon traveling companions’ schedules, as it will not be in my plane.

Congrats, Spike! Very happy for you.

If you're at Oshkosh I'll be happy to buy you a beer. Only met you once, but I'd love to chat. I'll be there for most of the shebang since I teach Origami at the Craft Tent.

Spike...

WElcome to the profession.

My forum is Monday morning at 10. Come on around to see how you can loophole the owner-built parts gig.

On my schedule!

Before I became lawyer-dude, I was electronics-Service-dude.

Very cool, Spike! Congrats!

Here I was, thinking you'd bought another airplane - Something for low and slow, for the new "lane".
