I know we have a few members in that area... Hope you're all safe.

@Timbeck2 - any direct info from the area?

Edit: I spelled Tucson incorrectly in the title.

I think it's a Premier 1
Fox now saying "Twin Engined Beech"

What makes you thing it's a Premier 1?
Flightaware...
Premier 1 scheduled to leave about that exact time.
Only other non-sched departure that was due out around that time, that isn't in the air now, was a Citation 2.

Fox News says it was a King Air 300, one confirmed fatality.

From the audio I picked up that it apparently came out of Tucson Jet Center (fbo). Winds were approximately 220 around 15-18 gusting above 20, but runway 11 may have been in use. They started landing planes on 21 after re-opening. The first metar about 10 minutes after the accident was 24012G22. The last one about 37 minutes before was 18015.

Trained at TUS. Been blasted around trying land a 150 on 11R as a student. Had to request 21, but they let me do it. Similar winds to this crash. Can be very sporty winds, especially in afternoon.

Sad to hear...

I was on my way to the hangar and was about a mile away when I suddenly saw a lot of black smoke, figured that it was a training fire and continued on my way. As the gate to my hangars was opening I saw all the off airport emergency response vehicles going to the scene. That's how close I was but didn't see it actually come out of the sky.

Well we were thinking about ya Tim. Glad you're safe, and very sad for the KA occupants.

I got nine texts in 5 minutes, one from a friend deployed to Afghanistan, wondering if I was okay. Appreciated and sobering at the same time.

When I lived in Alaska, I would first hear about a plane crash in Alaska from my friends in Texas calling to see if I was Ok....

Happened to me several times.
This is nothing new.
Just like the famous BBT scene where Indian parents call their daughter in California just to ask: "vi herd dat der voz a tornedo in Kenses, is dat nir yu?"

When I was at the airline we had a couple Brasilias crash, and my wife was getting calls all day long, especially my kids worried it was me involved.

I remember watching a documentary about that ASA Brasilia that had a prop sever in-flight and crashed south of ATL. Were you with the airline at that time?

Yes but it actually was west in the Carrollton area. Capt a good friend with a pretty wife and 2 sweet little boys. He saved a lot of lives by getting it in a field. He was knocked out from impact and hopefully died before the plane was engulfed in flames. I think around 30-50% of the passengers got out, including the FA. FO got burned badly but eventually returned to the line. FA never could make it back, she and the Co tried. She saved some lives by not panicking.

Wow! Quite the story and an interesting documentary. Sad deal!

Yes. We had two crash because of propeller problems, both instances the fault of Hamilton-Standard. The other crashed in a turn to final at BQK, killing all onboard. Sen John Tower -TX and an astronaut were among those that died in that crash. Left prop went to flat pitch and not enough altitude to recover, if they could even have done so.

And I know they began to retire the EMBs in the early 2000's to replace with the current CRJ series, correct? I remember when they flew the ATR's into here many moons ago.

I know we were flying E120s, ATRs, and the CRJs at the same time, but I'm not sure but seems early 2000s about right. I flew the E120, ATR, and CRJs. Where are you on TN? I remember flying into TRI and CHA in the ATR.

CHA. Expressjet has reduced service on the CRJ's from what it used to be. Delta has started mainline service within the past couple of years flying Mad-dogs and 717's. Lots of changes from how it was years ago!

I remember when we flew into CHA late at night and departed early the next morning (last in, first out). Rest of the flights were all Delta, and Delta ground station. Then we took over the station and Delta didn't service CHA at all with their planes, we did all the flying for Delta. I've heard it's back to Delta now though as you said.

I've always assumed the crews despise short legs, such as ATL-CHA. Probably only block 1.0hr each way, if that. Ha! But yeah, they've really lowered RJ service from ATL in the past few years. Skywest flies a couple of flights from ATL but the majority is all DAL now.

Volkswagen has started to put CHA on the map since they came to town. New routes to EWR and ORD. It's definitely helped the airport's revenue according to the news, so it's been great for the economy.

Think in the CRJ we were blocked :40, actual air time probably :20, :25 depending on ATL traffic and which way they were landing. If we had an overnight there we'd get there quick!

Understandable, but a damn shame she didn't go back to flying. That FA did a hell of an outstanding job.

F'n autocorrect. Stoopidest 'smart phone feature.

Ahh you mean the FA? Yeah I forget her name. She tried to come back. Flew on a couple flights, sitting in the back. She finally decided she couldn't do it. Hell after a crash like that it's understandable.

Got to deny those tailwind take offs, especially if shear is present.

Picked up my bird out of annual from the main airport to fly back to the home drome (short flight) last week. Winds were pretty sporty 20G33, but KELP was having a bunch of windshear as well. I got held at the hold short line for the longest time ever. Airliner landing prior to my take off hit shear and landed SO HARD, they sent a truck out to inspect the runway looking for spare parts and FOD:eek: Took awhile to clear it and I finally was able to depart.

If I were landing Class B,C,D in this type of weather I would DEFINETLY get a wind check turning base to final. Had a nasty shear at KEDC Austin Exec a few months ago that the Tiger handled ok (nearly a go-around). Gave a heads up to the king air that was next to land, and I thought for sure I was watching my first live crash, it was UGLY when he hit it (and he knew it was coming) ... his was a go-around and needed to be.

Were you landing on 13? The big hwy and hill on short final (hence the displaced threshold) don't exactly help the vertical approach stability. Had a LLWS encounter there myself.
