Sky West Fined

Doh, I take their DC flight about 10 times a year.

They better get it together before I fly them next month.

I fly out next Monday. Maybe I'll flash my PPL card and tell them I need to help preflight. I'll wear my AOPA hat to look official.

I may be a bit biased, but being new to 121 flying after 37 years of GA I have to say I've been impressed with how meticulous about maintenance SkyWest (and I suspect most 121 carriers) are on a day to day basis. The captain goes through the maintence "can" thoroughly before the first flight in any aircraft we take over. We've grounded our aircraft over seemingly inconsequential items (loose carpet trim strip) because that's what the rules require.

So, I'll be interested to hear SkyWest's side of this story.

Looks like they didn't get to some ADs in a timely manner. The airlines aren't talking, another case of pass the buck.

Typical "company man" answer.

(I kid I kid!)

This has nothing to do with the captain going through the maintenance logbook or performing the preflight. It also has nothing to do with how well the line mechanics do their job. This is an issue of someone in either Maintenance Programs, Maintenance Planning or QA or a combination of them not doing their job thoroughly enough to ensure the inspection requirements outlined by the AD were added to their program and then scheduled to be done. Impossible for us to know exactly where in the chain of responsibility the error actually occurred.

Lessee….two aircraft, 16 thousand flights.

Even if they were doing four flights a day, that's over 5 years.

Someone let an AD go for a very long time.

"aircraft" is a collective noun referring to all the planes of a specific type/model in their fleet.

in the grand scheme of things really this is small potatoes....probably a mx software glitch or something along those lines....(sure it has happened) but not to many folks in 121 will intentionatley ignore an AD.

Most people have absolutely no clue if they're on Skywrst, Republic, Envoy, or any of them. The passenger believes it's United, American etc...

What, I am not riding on Pan Am, TWA, Braniff, Eastern Or Trump Airlines..??

Yeah, you book on one airline travel web site and you really don't know what company airplane you are on.

Plus it's not like this kind of thing doesn't happen to the majors.
