Singapore Airlines Gear Collapse

new definition of bug smasher

Thoughts, in no particular order: 1) Flashback to design meeting... "Squat switch? What do we need that for?", except they said it in French.

2) Looks like relatively minor sheet metal repairs to the underside of the nose section... except... it also looks like the engine nacelle hit ground as well. Just like a GenAv gear-up, its the engine inspection that is going to drive up the cost of repairs.

it has squat switches, more than one actually. they were probably doing some systems checks and the procedures call for disabling the weight on wheels systems. so the systems can be put in flight mode. that also will disable some of the gear protection systems.

The A330 uses proximity sensors to determine that it shouldn't operate the gear, not a squat switch. Most likely things were disabled during maintenance.

"Hey maintenance, Captain says it was a little sluggish taxiing to the gate. And why the hell is the jet bridge all the way up there?!?"

No problem just pull the breakers, nothing bad can happen. Oh no ,not that breaker.

I wonder what his brother in law Ho Lee Fukk said when he saw this?!

Not sure, but I think his cousin Lee Ho Fooks has a Chinese restaurant in Soho. However watch out for the Werewolves of London getting a big dish of beef chow mein.
