Should I remove my tag?

I'll say it again...

For me he crossed a line when he posted this after the tragic accident in the Alps caused by a suicidal copilot:

"Oh, I can, no worries. If I ever commit suicide, I plan to take way more."

When called out on that, he responded:

"Nope, if I'm committing suicide, God is in no laughing mood, I'd be doing the people a favor with a quick painless death while screwing myself."

Did he mean that? Was it a morbid joke? Or a sign of a disturbed mind that might actually be flying passengers for hire with thoughts like that rattling around in his head?

I put him on ignore after that. In my opinion the site is better off without him.

As an aside, I remember where I was when I read those posts, and the feeling of outrage they caused. If the goal of a troll is just to get a rise out of people, in this case he succeeded.

I can have an irreverent, dark, gallows, offensive type of humor myself at times but yeah, that made me shake my head as well.
 
I would suspect Henning meant it as gallows humor simply because many of his posts were obviously BS. People who are truly thinking about suicide seldom talk openly about it. I'm speaking from personal experience. In November 2000 I went to work thinking all was well with my wife only to come home and find her dead on the floor from an overdose of Prozac, a drug that was designed to help her overcome depression. It took time for me to overcome the fact the woman I loved for over thirty years was no longer a part of my life. That experience taught me that people who are seriously considering ending their own life do not share that decision/fantasy with anyone else. That is why I think it was nothing more than some of Henning's BS. Most who want to depart this Earth do not want to take others with them. The German Wings pilot was an exception who had no respect for other's lives.

BTW, although it has taken me a long time to reconcile the events of that day I am over it. I am not the victim. My late and beloved wife was.

My two cents worth and just expressing the opinion of one who has BTDT. Not asking for sympathy, just sad we did not have more years to share. She was Forty eight.

I think Henning was dead serious though. He wasn't emotively suicidal, what he expressed was philosophical nihilism. It was a logical outworking of his perception of reality. Or possibly a philosophy that he intellectually flirted with, and he brought it up to stimulate a reaction that would be bandied about.

Cooter, I was not looking for sympathy just stating what went down on that day. The love of my life chose to opt out for whatever reasons. I still ,seventeen years later have not reconciled. Life goes on in the face of adversity whether we like it it or not. Our deity called her home and Im comfortable with that in spite of missing her.

I think he's just an adventurous soul who wants to try out as many things as he can during his sojourn on this earth. Maybe he only spent a few days at some of the jobs he held, never intending to do them for a living anyway, but just wanting to see what they were like. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If I had it to do all over again, I might just do the same thing.

At first I thought he was nothing but a BS artist. As time went by I think what you've said is closer to the truth, mixed in with some BS for entertainment value. Regardless, even though Henning and I disagree on almost everything he's still an alright guy.

We had a few when tied up here a few years ago motoring a big yacht down inside passage from AK with owners. Expensive boat but, conspicuous with no chopper or even folding wing amphbion on deck... He worked a bit with me building my TII STOL AMPHIB with its first engine prior to that. Had lots of ideas but some not so good after minimal scrutiny.

As for the stories. He reminds me a lot of my dad's younger brother who spent much of his early life in commercial shipping / oil services. Later he owned bars, a real estate company and a money changing business. When he and some of his buddies from the oil days on the persian gulf got together, the Henning like stories started to flow. There is a technical term for it (and it is the same in low-german and english): Yarn

Actually, he had over 60k posts!

Story:

When Henning was closing in on 50k posts, some smartazz (who shall remain nameless) came up with the idea of having his counter start running backwards at 49,999. That smartazz forwarded his idea to a couple of the MC members. Apparently they were smartazzes too and they programmed the forum to have Henning's post count run backwards. It was hilarious.

So, since his count is just under 40k that means it's actually just over 60k.

The problem with Henning wasn't his BS. The problem was that he spoke as if he was "the authority" on so many subjects...subjects that he had absolutely no clue about. Dangerously so. Some unsuspecting person who took his "authoritarian advice" seriously might have gotten hurt...or worse....

Oh, and BTW, he also claimed that Barry Seal offered him a pile of cash to fly some drugs. I did the math and pointed out to Henning that he was only 17 the last year that Barry was in Mena.

I personally like the forum the way it is now. There aren't any self-annointed experts who post on every topic.

There was a member (not Henning) who shall not be named who, if there was a question and a dozen correct responses, still had to post his own version of the correct response. Actually there were several members like that but there is one in particular that I don't miss.

Boy, that's no lie! And he would totally ignore all the correct answers before his.

I won't mention any names either but I assume you're talking about the guy whose initials were Ron Levy! ;)

And...I thinking back...R&W gave him just as much (or more) sh*t than he gave Henning. I definitely miss R&W, he was a hoot.
 
@Anymouse you haven't put in there the story of Henning landing his Travel Air covered in 6" of ice but didn't know it and then flew the ILS down at full power and told tower to tell him when he was over the numbers. I know it's on the forum somewhere at least once.
