Sears has a pretty good deal going on if you shop there frequently. Spend $300 and get the $300 back BUT it is in points doled out $15/week and must be spent that week. I will probably do it cause I need a battery for my car anyway.

Isn't Sears out of business yet.
20 weekly installments? So you have to go to the dilapidated Sears store every week to collect on $15?
That's sort of like the <insert ethnic group> Lottery. You win a million dollars, a dollar a year for a million years.
 
I honestly don't know where there is still an open Sears store; there was one about a three minute drive away, but they closed last year (after over 50 years!).

K-Mart really stuck it to Sears. Bad deal.

Edit: Just checked. Only three Sears stores in the entire DFW area. Lots of "Sears Appliance Outlet" stores, though. Yipee.

Sears is very convenient to me and there are lots of them still open in South Florida. They do offer free shipping but only over $59 sale. I just checked the shipping on a $15 padlock and it was $6.25 so you get the $15 tool or whatever for the price of shipping. I need a battery anyway and the price on the DieHard is competitive so it works for me.
 
My wife and I were at the mall the other day. My first time there in quite a while. Got to the wing where Sears used to be and I told her how much I missed it. I'm still trying to figure out why and how Lampert thought he could make $ decimating the company.

I can still get Craftsman tools at Lowe's, but that would be like going to Orchids of Asia looking for companionship.

Same here. Was in my mall for the first time in years and there sat the big empty Sears store.
 
The local Sears here closed sometime last year. Now a Harbor Freight occupies that building.

You can get some Craftsman stuff at Lowe's. You have to understand that Craftsman is a BASTARD name. Stanley bought out the rights to the name two years ago, but Sears retained the rights to market any piece of crap they want as Craftsman as well.
 
If Sears had just downsized their stores to include nothing but the appliances and tools/auto about two decades ago, they would still likely be fine. They tried to continue being the big catalogue department store of old which led to their current demise.
 
Actually, if they'd kept the catalog business going, they'd be Amazon. They decided that real estate and financial services was the business they should be in. Even after "returning to its roots" around 2003 they were still heavily invested in consumer credit which tanked badly in the 2008 recession. The lowend retail was eaten up by Walmart.

Then the company got raped by some advisors who came in to profiteer. They made an ill-conceived buy out of K-Mart and pretty much got nothing out of it but debt. Then Lampbert came in and really made a mess of things. Essentially they turned the stores into consumer nightmares with hostility towards employees and customer service, while they continued to rape off anything they could sell (real estate, etc...).

Of course, that's not quite as bad as the CEO of Montgomery Ward who says he was repositioning his stores in the niche between Walmart and Sears. You couldn't have shoved a piece of paper in that niche.
 
The nearest remaining Sears store to me is 76 miles away. There's a K-Mart a bit closer that's still hanging in there, though. (Then again, the nearest Walmart is 50 miles away, so I guess everything's relative.)

I like Sam's Club for batteries. In fact, they're the only vehicle batteries I buy any more. The Duracell car batteries are the best I've used in terms of cold-weather performance. No matter how cold it gets, they fire right up.

I also like the 3-year non-prorated replacement warranty.
