Screen Recording Programs

I am looking to create some tutorials for my staff where I can record what is happening on my computer screen specifically how to use certain programs that we use in our practice. Someone recommended "camtasia" to me. It seems good but a bit expensive about $250.00 per user ( most of the online reviews I've read agree) There are certainly free ones out there but I am leery of installing a free program ( and what ever unwelcome stuff that may come with it) on my firm's computer system. Does anyone have any recommendations for a screen recording program that is good and a bit more moderately priced? Oh We use a Windows system. Thanks

I've been using "Screencast-o-Matic" for several years for building videos for an online course.

It is WAY simpler than Camtasia, and I've found it easy to use. Took about 10 minutes to get a feel for it. I use it on Windows 10.

It has the kind of editing features I need (edit out the "ummmm's", overwrite/replace a section with a second take, overlay simple text or images, import a video from somewhere else and narrate it, replace just the video or just the audio, etc. etc.) without a billion advanced features I don't need.

Edit: It's subscription-based, but pretty cheap. There's a free version, but the recordings are limited to 15 minutes and not all features are available. But you can test-drive.

You said you are leery of free software, but I'll mentions these two anyway in case they help someone else.

iSpring FreeCam.
I've used iSpring for a few years. If you look at any of my equipment videos on YouTube, that's the result.The one downside is that it seems to use a lot of resources, which somethings makes it difficult to record things like the G1000 emulator, particularly in dual-screen mode. That's when I cam across the second one only a month or so ago..

Apowersoft Screen Recorder.
A little fuky in one respect. It's quasi online. It has a small app you download which operates through a browser. Not very Chrome-compatible, so I set up a dediated link to FireFox. But other than that, I've been pretty satisfied with the results.

Both are very easy to use.
