So we are at the end of the second Mothers' Day with both of our mothers gone; odd that my mom and Celia's mom died within 4 months or so of each other.

I am one of those lucky ones who, when I wed, truly gained another set of parents, and Celia's Mom, Carolyn Cox Partch, was the picture of the gracious southern lady; my mother, Mildred Avalon Scarborough Cutler was a strong-willed, powerful woman.

Friday, I was looking through photographic archives for some pictures of when Tommy was younger, and I came across some photographs of my mom and of Celia's mom, and for some reason I cannot identify, I missed them more now than ever. I recall things they each said that made me laugh or made me think, and occasionally I have the impulse to pick up the phone and call one or the other with a story.

Friday, I ate lunch at the restaurant adjacent to where my mom's flower shop was... and they were tearing the building down. That didn't help much.

Today, I spoke with Lillian Cox, my Grandmother-in-law, the one who lives in Tallahassee and is 102 years old- she is looking forward to our visit this summer, and says she hopes she can make it 'til then... but she's been saying that for fifteen years, now. The house is for sale, but I don't think she'll actually sell it. Imagine what she's seen since 1907.

---

Not going anywhere with this, except to remind you that, if you still have your mothers, be sure you call 'em, get their stories, tell 'em yours. I sure wish I still could.

Ours are 86 and 96. We spent much of the day with them and hope to do it again next year.

I was home in PA for the weekend. I saw my Mom all weekend and we also went to visit both of my Grandmothers' graves (all 4 grandparents actually) and my Great-Grandmother's too. I also saw my niece and nephew, first time since last summer (too long).

I miss my Mom. She has been dead for many years. Glad to hear all who could spend time with theirs.

Elizabeth. I forgot you are from PA. Which part?

I didn't see my mom yesterday. But I have seen her 3 times in the last two months. I also called her... she wasn't too happy about the call at first as I woke up... at 7:45am and decided to make sure I was the first to call, but then we talked for an hour.

I am from near-Erie.

I am sorry some of us can't spend Mother's Day with our Moms. :(

I spend as much time with my parents as I can - it's also why I am taking them on various vacations with me NOW, while they are still hale and hearty and can get around. Who knows what tomorrow will bring...

Oh yeah, that's right. Closest I've been to there is Meadville, ie, "Mudville". Attended an Allegheny College reunion with my first wife who was an alumnus.

Gotta say it. Dreary Erie, the mistake on the lake. :D

I have never heard that before! That's really clever!

Sorry. I know its corny.

It's the official Erie motto actually.

Even though Pittsburgh has fewer days of sunshine per year...

I did lots of work for Erie Insurance Group as a consultant about 10 years ago. My first visit was in Sepetember -- it was cold, rainy, low overcast...not fun.

But the locals were such boosters I had to go out and explore.

I biked out on Presque Isle, toured the Brig Niagara, ate at Sarah's, watched a sunset on the Beach at PI -- the works.

That summer we traveled as a family and did the grand tour -- camping, hiking, touring.

I found my daughter's Quarter horse Mad About Taboo at a breeder in Meadville. She was 2 then -- now she's 12 and still a great riding horse.

I've flown to KERI a few times. Great FBO (North Coast Air) and plenty of loaner cars. I like flying in, grabbing some stuff from Wegmans, and eating lunch over on a beach at PI.

Erie has challenges (what Northeast post-industrial town doesn't?), but has many assets upon which to capitalize.

Horses are big there, for sure. I had horses growing up and my brother/his wife have a number of them now too.

This wkd we walked the Peninsula with the dog (black lab - loves water!) and ate at Sarah's. Funny. Did you visit Waldameer while you were there? That park is really taking off. They have a new ride this year, too.

No! We ran out of time!
:nonod:

We have a Yellow Lab -- PI is the perfect place for water dogs (as long as you're not on a swimming beach!)

We need to get back soon and visit the park. Maybe we'll do a fun fly up!

I also enjoy the history of the Area. A few weeks ago I was in Colnial Williamsburg. The next week I was in Erie. It made me realize how long a trek young Major Washington had to Fort LeBeouf to deliver Virginia's demands to the French "invaders"...

Both of our mothers have been gone for quite a few years now. I miss not being able to say have a happy mothers day.

I see you live close to Erie, PA. I was born about 35 miles east in a little town called Sherman, N.Y. Do you know where that is? It is a little west of Jamestown, N.Y. In fact there is still a Bement road there named after my grandfather William Bement. Bob

I know that area a little bit. Had great Hot Wings at a little place on Saranac Lake!

Saranac Lake is a looooong way from Jamestown!

OK, wrong lake. My mistake. I spent a long weekend camping on an island on Saranac Lake. The lake near Jamestown was Chautauqua Lake.

I called my mother yesterday morning while eating breakfast in South Carolina. The interesting part was the day before, when she called me as I was getting ready to take off in Connecticut. I said I was going to call her the next day to wish her a happy mother's day, and she said "Oh, tomorrow's mother's day?" She'd honestly forgotten. I love my mom. :)
