I finally got my Master rod assembly back from rebuild and the warner is going back together. today I made some progress.

1 rebuilt master rod
2 crank in nose case
3 master rod on crank
4 crank and master rod at TDC
5 accessory gears in place and cam timing set
6 side view of the case assembly
7 rear of the engine with oil pump in place
8 another view of the case assembly.

It's ready for cylinders, but I decided today to renew them as required to look like they should, they got pretty rusty setting in the wet hangar at OKH. The Bores are fine just the outside is shoddy looking.

The lower end got a new main bearing, two new mag drive gears, 6 new bronze bushings for carring the gears, and a new oil fed bushing that feeds the crank oil pressure. The crank was polished to .0005" under and the new bearing was lapped to fit at .002" clearance. all new master rod bushings (12) and knuckle pins (6). lapped to .0005 for fit.

Great pictures.

Engines are amazing pieces of technology.

Radial engines are technology art.

Today I had too much help, or I would have the accessories on too, but I was showing them the difference between an old 1943 radial, and a 0-300 gears, you take the 0-300 crank drive gear and the cam gear and touch them together and they go " clunk" the Warner gears ring like a bell.

they built good stuff back then.

There's no way that spider-thingy can turn, go in and out, without flailing itself to a million pieces.
Least, that's what I see whenever I look at those things apart, or in cutaways!

In cutaways they probably would.. but picture this, 7 guys standing in a circle, trying to turn the same crank.

Another reason why machines are named after females.

I guess it's been too long for me, I see sexy gyrations. Makes me want to throw dollar bills. Most owners do, ya know.

Maybe if more guys took shop the porn industry would collapse. Instead of talking of, um, human anatomy, a boys night out would be talking of TDC, valve lash, etc.
