Everyone comes thru Florida sometime and when people get out of their mom's basement, or stops thinking they are far more important than others, you can meet them.

Met Ike at West Point, will, to shake his hand at the rope, as well as Gerald Ford.

Met Billy Graham in Denver, on the steps of a church, where he was freeing his wife's skirt hem from the hell of her shoe. What a great man.

Ball Players come thru Florida for Spring Training every year.

Didn't meet but...
I saw Ronald Reagan at Newark Airport getting off of AF1, waving to reporters and airport personnel. In May of '83 he gave the commencement address at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. Marine1 and his support helicopters (5 or 6) flew directly over my parent's house about a mile away! That was a cool sight.

Also at KEWR, during a visit by Bill Clinton, my co-worker and I had to setup portable lights around AF1 and a C-141 support plane, before sunset. After we were done, I asked the crew if I could meet the pilots (C-141). The pilots invited me into the cockpit and were kind enough to talk to me about the aircraft and explain the cockpit, then took pictures of me in both seats.

Met David Windmiller last year at Republic Airport (KFRG). Saw him perform at several airshows and it was great to meet him.

Met my favorite Jazz artist Pat Metheny and got his autograph! This was at J&R music world in lower Manhattan.

Not meeting a famous person.

Getting on a ferry from Mackinac Island with some of the crew after the Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race... the ferry is pretty full, but there is a bench with just two people sitting on it - Bob Seger and (I assume) his son (Seger's boat had won their division). I decide he probably wants some space and I find another spot along with Dave (foredeck guy). The skippers elderly dad (Marvin) is behind us, spots the space next to Bob Seger, sits down, introduces himself and starts chatting (Marvin loved to talk). I look over at Dave "How much you wanna bet that Marvin has no clue?"
"No bet, I'm sure he has absolutely no idea."

The ferry docks in Mackinaw City we get off, meet up with Marvin. "Hey, Marvin, do you know who you were sitting with?"
"He said his name was Bob something."
"Do you know who he is?"
He said he had won his division this year, why?"...

Marvin was not a fan of rock and roll music.

I had boat yard karma with David Crosby for several years, we would end up hauling on the day. First time we were both floating around in the Commecial Basin in SD waiting to haul at Ketenberg's, I looked over and said "Nice boat" he's "thanks" "Hey, I know you..." Did some work on and sailed Mayan with him a few times. Met Jackson Brown on her the summer he stayed on it in Sausalito, I had the slip next to her for the season.

My dad ran into David Crosby at a marina deli in SD....said he appeared stoned out of his mind.

I've seen him in the Fresh Market.

I've seen Diana, Princess of Wales a few times when I lived in London. Also Alan Rickman, Christopher Reeve, Eric Clapton around London.

My father has flown quite a few famous people when he was a pilot for Pan Am. I remember he said Arnold Schwarzenegger is not as tall as he appears on film, and Dustin Hoffman is quite short. My mother sat next to George Lucas on a Pan Am flight, also Mike Wallace, who she said was rude to the flight crew.

A good friend of my father's was a film prop master, and has endless stories about actors. He particularly loathes Julia Roberts.
 
I have a copy of Baa Baa Black Sheep autographed by Pappy Boyington. Air show in Colorado around 30 years ago. I have a baseball autographed for me by Mickey Mantle. No, I didn't meet him personally, but his uncle was a Navy buddy of my dad's from WW II.

Captain, being 61,soon to be 62 years of age, sometimes I feel like I did know Paul Revere,the patriot. But for you whippersnappers,Paul Revere And The Raiders was house band on Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is", an offshoot of American Bandstand produced back in the 60's.I met Paul,Mark and some of the others after winning a radio contest. The prize was two passes to an oldies concert pre-show meet and greet in Ft. Worth back in the 80's.
 
I met one of the TMZ guys, the dude with kinda long dreads, wears a rolex....don't even know his name but we were staying at the same hotel at last years Bristol nascar race. I took a pic with him. funny, cause I don't like nascar or tmz lol. this guy was cool though.
 
My uncle (well, my great uncle, actually-- he is my grandfather's brother) was in the Secret Service. Obviously, he's met a few folks. Perhaps one of my favorite stories was how he spanked one of President Eisenhower's offspring-- his grandson, David, I think.

He was also with Kennedy when he went swimming at the beach. People started noticing him, and they surrounded him. There is a fairly famous picture of the president where he was being escorted by the secret service out of the water with people all around. My uncle is in the shot, directly to his left.

Oh, I should clarify, I wasn't part of the Bin Laden raid. I put that in there in case people weren't aware, he was the one responsible for planning the raid. In 0 Dark Thirty you can see him played by the actor at the end of the movie.

I was a VIP pilot in theater so if it was a high ranking officer, govt official or someone famous doing a USO tour, we flew them around. I flew McCraven on several ocassions and I can tell you the one thing that stood out was he never once was late. Other officers were almost always 10-15 mins late and in the case of McCrystal, hours late. I remember one time Adm McCraven rolled up with his SEAL posse about 1 min early, rushed into the back of the aircraft and appoligized for being late. I just laughed. The guy was right on time, as was the case with every special ops person I've ever flown.

Yeah, in McCraven's case I just think being punctual was part who he was. I definitely didn't envy the aides either. That job is no joke. There are perks to the job but those guys work 24/7. When I used to call my general's aide, half the time the guy sounded exhausted. Really they're the ones running the entire days events.
 
When I was Manager of Service and Support Engineering at Eclipse Aviation I almost ran over Tom Cruise when he was dating Penelope Cruz - they had at that time 'purchased' a plane and were out touring the plant. Also met Col. Frank Borman while there. Saw but did not meet John Travolta.

Met John McCain and Sarah Palin during the '08 campaign.

It's interesting to me to read about folks seeing famous people and celebrities on commercial airline flights. I would think that after somebody gets past a certain amount of fame and fortune (probably around the $20 million mark or so?) I would have thought they'd all fly charter jets.

If I was worth double-digit millions, I'd NEVER fly commercial again, I'd charter jets. And if I was worth triple-digit millions, I'd have my own jet and crew to haul me around.
 
Many, but most significant to me was the conversation I was able to have with Sir Frank Whittle.

Oh yeah, have never met him but I saw Bill Murray at a Prince concert. Probably 3 rows up. He lives pretty close to me. Funny thing was we were in a box and he was in gen pop.
 
Some are like that. When the movie Demolition Man was being filmed, they shot for about a week at Fluor in Irvine (was working there at the time). maybe 3 minutes in the movie. Stallone would shoot the scene and disappear, Snipes ate in the cafeteria with us common folks several times

One other person - I briefed George Schultz on the lab I had designed at Tandem Computers when he was a member of the Board of Directors for the company. The rest of the BoD was there, too.

I took summer boat trip down the Yukon river way back in 1982 and met George Attla at his cabin. While we were there Susan Butcher and family showed up to visit.

These name will mean nothing to most of you, but in Alaska they are pretty much household names. Both are famous mushers. Susan won the Iditerod four times before succumbing to cancer.

Oddly enough my job as a paramedic for many years has brought me in contact with several famous people.

Abe Vigoda, I was friendly with his daughter and met him several times.
George Cumming of Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show I've met once.
Mark Martin, As a part time draftsman, I did design work on his house.
Eddie Money, Its a long story.

There's been others but they escape mind mind.

My grand kids love to go to the Disney & Universal parks and we have seen (or more appropriately they have seen) various "celebrities" around the theme park empires.

I am always amazed at how out of touch with the current famous and beautiful people now a days. They'll get all gaga about seeing a guy named Usher (not an usher, like at the theater but a guy named Usher) who sings and gyrates around on a stage. The kids were thrilled to watch him filming some kind of video, or another and I sat as far away as possible, with my fingers in my ears. What an awful racket.

Then again, they have no idea who I mean when I talk about John Wayne, or Roy rogers, so there you go...

We took a riverboat ride in Fairbanks in 2003. Included in the tour were a STOL demonstration by a Super Cub at a riverbank airstrip, and an amazing demonstration by Susan Butcher and her dogs, at Susan's compound.
