Rachet tie down question

I went with 420 feet :)
oops, yeah, apologies, I messed up the lyric, it was supposed to be "497 and a half feet".....but, if you're old enough (like me) to get it, you're way old enough to forget a lot of stuff!

lol I didn't get the reference but looked up the quote and am listening to the song now, it's pretty funny. never heard it before.
 
The wings are designed to handle much positive lift. They are NOT designed to handle nearly as much negative lift which is what the tie-downs generate.
In other terms, your fuselage hangs from the wings and the wings are designed to support it. The wings are not designed to handle as much force in other direction.

Well, yes for most planes. But a number of aerobatic planes are stressed for the same load factor plus and minus.

But even a basic aerobatic plane is stressed to -3G.
