Property Taxes on Hangar Rentals

I'm paying state sales tax (not property tax) on a rental hangar owned by the county. Seems weird to me.

I didn't pay property tax in MD or VA on hangar rental. I suspect the county would have tried to collect it if I owned the improvement (on a ground lease). I think the condo hangar guys do indeed pay that.

Of course, the county down here charges me property tax as I own both the structure and the land.

I’m guessing you’re paying sales tax on the rent, not on the value of the hangar itself? Entities can tax whatever they want, including rents...

Correct. Seems odd to me that a municipality owned asset is subject to sales tax but I read the code, it's in there. Schmucks.

I pay it here in Sonoma County, CA.. Still seems absurd...
