Premier 1 driver reported to FAA by "pilot"

Tower told me to report 4 mile final. I reported I was 4 mile final when I was actually 3 miles out. Discuss.
 
I like the turn this thread has taken. The previous horse was most definitely beaten to a bloody pulp. Seeing what unfolds with this possible matchmaking is way more interesting.

Coincidently I was given instruction for a 15 mile straight in, report 4 mile final in a Delta today. Couldn’t get a word in until 3.5 miles out. Should I be worried the FAA will come knocking on my door any minute?

Those born after 1995 in particular dont really know a time before the internet and entered their teen years at a time when not only was the internet common place but it became readily available to you at any time via a fully functional browser on your shiny new 2007 iphone gen1 (yeah the internet on phones predates the iPhone but it was severely limited). Just a quick google search away, the internet provided a community of like minded individuals, where you could find support for your views while still remaining mostly anonymous. It created a giant social safety net to fall back on where the fear of being ostracized from your local community didn't matter because your online community that you found with like views would welcome you with open arms. This was accelerated further by the "absence" of parents in the home as dual income families became the norm and the internet started to blur the lines between work and home. Therein lies the divide between the "current" generation that has increasingly distanced themselves from the views of their parents in favor of new views.

Add to that we were actually somewhat due for a cultural revolution... Historically, they seem to run about once every 40-50 years or every 3-4 generations (a generation that starts it, a generation born into it and its benefits and a generation that starts to think yeah but we could do better... by the 4th generation its "we're going to do better") and at least here in the US the last major one was roughly mid-50's to late 60's with the Baby Boomers with the current upheaval arguably starting right "on time" sometime in the mid-to-late aughts... Cant speak from experience myself but at least from the historical descriptions of the 60's cultural revolution, the "kids" then weren't overly worried about being disowned and while I dont know that I've seen or heard descriptions of them disowning their parents generation, they clearly had major disagreements over the direction of society from Vietnam to sex, drugs and Rock and Roll and many made an effort to distance themselves in someway, shape or form from the prior generation though probably not as significantly and vitriolic as the current generation.

I did catch the cutoff short and didn't think anything of it...that is until you pointed it out. Something so silly...please keep doing what you're doing. I hatched this pilot's videos. They are very informative, and if given the chance I'd like to take a ride with him in that airplane.
The way he explains things is very understandable. Im sure if you spend any time with him, he'l teach you something about being a pilot.

Altho I have a GoPro, and a mount for the cherokee, I don't see much use for it while flying. Really now, is there a reason for another video landing/taking off at Leadville? Maybe when I start IFR training again...someday...in the future....this decade....this century....maybe....

Actually, I do have one very good use....since I teach the Young Eagle ground school for our EAA chapter (well, someday, when we get back to running the YE program around here) I have the videos of each of our routes, so the kids can see what to expect.

I never have been able to "eye ball" distances. Fortunately, between the DME and the iPad, I get a good estimate. Of course the DME is to the far end of the runway. No problem. Just subtract 8000 ft. (or do the trig equation....suuuuuuure)

I saw what happened to Greg Mink who owns a Beech Jet N390GM who makes outstanding videos that are good instruction even for those who do not own Jets. Greg is very responsible and does not deserve the way the student pilot reported him to FAA. He would have been wiser had he first talked to a CFI or bounced it off experienced pilots. Greg operated very safely at a non controlled airport.
 
Crap like this is why I never post flying videos to my YouTube channel. There is always some anal retentive jerk just waiting to try and screw you for some minor thing. The FAA are like police, if a call comes in, they have to investigate. Technically P1 made a minor error, hopefully this will go nowhere.

4 miles from the departure end, the tower, or the approach end? 4 statute miles or 4 nautical miles?

I don't care. I rarely post flying videos to my YouTube channel and when I do, it's usually a short segment. That has nothing to do with fearing some idiot or the FAA. Instead, it's because (select the best answer):

(a) I'm too lazy to do all that editing.
(b) My flights are not all that interesting.
(c) I am not all that interesting.
(d) All of the above​
 
Gasp! I did an 8 mile straight in to KPOU in the Cub last week, as per instructions from the tower. I called the final at 4.1 miles instead of 4.
I better file some paperwork before they drag me out of the house and send me to Gitmo. :D

I have to say the people in the tower were really pleasant, and accommodating. They told me stay on frequency, pick my turnoff and go straight to the diner without stopping.
It had taken me almost an hour to fly the 44 miles from GBR to KPOU. And it was witchen,bitchen cold. Someone probably knew I needed a gallon of hot tea on my feet to thaw them out.
 
You have to be very careful what you post on POA as well....I swear some people have nothing better to do than find fault with others.

I landed behind a Cessna at CRE a few years ago...he announced clear the active and the tower chewed him out...told him that his radio call was not necessary...the pilot replied it was a habit he picked up in the military...several radio transmissions not helpful IMO.
