Come across a problem lately. If I try to post a photo from my (public) web page, it gets the "broken image" logo. It shows up normally while editing, but isn't there when I hit "Post" button.

Any ideas?

Oh, there's your problem. There's a shot of @jesse in there, no wonder it won't show up.

Seriously, it may be that whoever is hosting your site is not allowing embedding. No idea what your hosting situation is.

I used to use Photobucket. It quit working. I got a notice that they changed their format, and wanted me to jump through hoops in order to share photos online. Likewise, I've had trouble with Google, iCloud and Amazon photos. When I try to share a photo from any of those, the icon in your OP is what the public sees.

I started using Flickr to share photos. I just clip all the BS text off and post just the URL for the public photo. Works good for now. But, I'm sure they'll change it. Eventually, I'll have to pay to share photos. Only a matter of time, when that happens, I'll just quit sharing.

I am inclined to think it's due to some change in my web hosting, but embedding images on sites using vBulletin still works. I see the problem on forums using Xenforo.

Are those vBulletin sites SSL encrypted? Our site (as are most in 2019) is 100% SSL encrypted. So the images hosted on the site have to be served from a place that is SSL encrypted or else the browser doesn't accept it. There is actually a system built into Xenforo that caches a copy of pictures hosted on other servers locally so that they can serve them from within the context of the site, but the other picture has to be SSL encrypted for it to work properly.

Thanks, that probably explains it. GoDaddy wants $60/year to encrypt it, so I'll use alternate methods.

Seems to work with imgur without SSL just fine. What would be the point of proxying it if it had to be SSL anyway?

PoA had to proxy that image. There might be complications with us fetching the source image from his site that complicates things. As other have stated, imgur would be a great way to post the images.

A lot of the images I post are already on my web pages, so doing imgur or other site would mean duplicated effort. I'll just start attaching image files instead.

I've been using FlickR since before Yahoo got them. Anyhow, LetsEncrypt.com is a good way to obtain certificates for free, though they're only good for 90 days.

On the XF site I run, we have installed their Media Manager add-in which gives users the ability to create albums and such (and link them easily into posts).

I would say that that screw is due for replacement. I would also wonder about the condition of the part that it went through - unless, of course, it is something not significant, like one of the attachments for flying wires. :)
