Planning on getting the PMA8000G installed in my C172M. The unit has a connection for music input jack (music#1). Question I have is where do most people locate this jack? My first thought would be close to the unit but then I thought about having a wire dangling from the top of the panel not being the best option. So I'm interested to hear from others on what they did.

I put Music 1 up front, music 2 in the back.

In my last install, I actually just left the jack unattached behind the panel and plugged in an audio out line from a GDL52 for music. Gave it a little more of an "installed" look rather than having wires sticking out of the panel. They're also frequently co-located with the pilot's or co-pilots headset jacks. All that said, depending on what you anticipate plugging into it, I'd think about where the "source' device is going to live and locate there.

Thanks. I'm thinking that as most of the time I'm going to use the Blue Tooth connection for my personal music, so most likely the music 1 jack would be used by the passenger in the copilot seat, having back seat passengers is infrequent

Even if infrequent, it will cost very little to wire music 2 in the back now; it'll be utterly impractical to wire it in later.

If you're not going to pay them to wire it now, at least do the next guy a favor and have them run a pigtail for it out of the audio panel and just tie it off behind the panel. Saves the next guy the working of cracking open the audio harness to add it.

Music 1 is on the bottom of the panel on the right side. Music 2 is next to the right rear headset jacks.

That's a great idea to just run the pigtail out to the rear seat, I'll do just that.

Different audio panel, but I have my music jack wired next to the front pax headset jacks. I can still reaxh it from the pilot's seat, but is out of the way otherwise.

I also wired it to a TRRS jack, and fed PAX headphone audio to what would be the microphone input on the phone via an attenuator. That way I can use it as a phone input/output as well for calla, since I have no Bluetooth. Or I can use it to record intercom/radio audio.

bluetooth, didn't bother wiring it at all

It's nice to have a wired input for a device with no bluetooth.

thought about it when we installed, realized, i don't have any devices i'd use in the plane which aren't bluetooth. phones, tables, headphones, cameras all bluetooth

If one Bluetooth is good then 3 is better. Plug these in to the panel. Or in the opposite direction, plug one in your wired-only device and connect wirelessly.
