Hi all,

Please share your feedback on the G3X Touch and/or G500TXi.

I’m currently thinking about 3 x GI275’s with a EIS but what if I did a G3X Touch with EIS instead?

Which G3x configuration, 1x10in, 2x7in, 10in+7in or 2x10in?

1x10” with EIS

I imagine everything can be displayed on the 10” including the EIS?

And I’ll need the G5 or GI275 brains / backup to run the GFC500? I can put this on the co-pilot side for when I’m flying right seat.

You'll need a G5/GI275 backup for IFR regardless of whether not you have a GFC500.

3x GI275 is a good chunk cheaper than a 10" G3x + EIS + G5. But if you can swing the cash, having charts and plates in the panel can be quite handy.

What navigator do you have? If it is a GTN, then I would go with the G500 and avoid the canbus used with the G3X. More dough but more capability with communications between the 275 and GTN with the G500.

Waiting for the numbers

GTN650Xi

I actually voted for the g3x in your poll for this very reason. I don't know my Garmin products as well as most, so I don't know all the nuances between g3x and g500txi. But I like big displays. The gi275 for me have too much going on smashed in the space it has.

The G500TXi is significantly more expensive than the G3X Touch, but it also has a larger, much nicer display.

That said, the G3X Touch/GFC500/GI275 combo gives you a compelling list of features.

Can you elaborate?

Also, if the OP is going to do the GFC500, that uses canbus too.

FWIW, again, if the OP is doing GFC500, that would point toward the G3X Touch. The G500 TXi cannot directly control the GFC500 autopilot, it can only feed mode selections to the G5/GI275 backup which is in turn controlling the autopilot. To me, having the G3X Touch as the primary gives you a level of redundancy that was unheard of in GA until recently - Either of your PFDs can go down and the remaining one will keep running the autopilot.

I have a G3X/GFC500/GTN650Xi with EIS combo in my airplane. I love it. Never used the G500TXi, so cannot comment on that.

You need a backup, either a G5 or a GI275, and there are specific mounting requirements. You cannot put it on the right side of the panel.

One of the Archers I fly has the 10" G3x. I love it. You can split screen for moving map/approach plates, or keep it as full screen. The synthetic vision is nicely done. The best thing is it's very intuitive for the touchscreen, plus the two hard knobs for when it starts to get bouncy. It's a very nice panel to fly with.
