Pilot - Social Experiment

You forgot Alf. Sheesh! ;)

She didn't do Alf, but hit the circuit pretty well at the time. Good agent, plus she was a cute blonde. Played the lifeguard on Rocky Road. Kelly Ann Conn.

Did you go on a date at least? Or was the show fake? You are so famous. Or at least your ex is famous.

Yes, went on a date - famous, no. We had fun, but not my "match". In fact, she was quite the opposite of the 4 page application I had filled out, describing my ideal. I took her skiing, and we ended up drinking in the lodge, after she crashed and burned a few times. She suggested we go to the lodge. I thought maybe Pepermint schnapps and hot chocolate. She ordered Bailey's and shots of 1800! Warmed up real quick. It re-runs on Gameshow network periodically. I was sandbagged by the show. It was amazing how I would get recognized out in public, like the bank or grocery store, whenever the show (my episode) ran. Our lines for the after date show were scripted. Sucked. I was ****ed. I didn't want to bag on her, but the show wanted either a "love connection" or the opposite. No middle ground, so they spiced up story and gave us lines.

So, you mean they gave you stuff to say, instead of the real (and much more interesting) story:

We went skiing, she crashed several times, but that 1800 sure fixed the pain!

Yeah, they embellished quite a bit. Since I didn't want to date her again, they gave me some blaster lines, and her a few jabs at me. Towards the end of the taping, I could see how it was affecting her, so I started to change my lines to tone them down. It wasn't totally rude like what goes on now (this was the 90's), but still out of character for me.

Show's producers offered me another episode where I would get to pick my date (she had picked me from three choices), but I declined. She reminded of a good friend in High School, and we had fun, but no romance. That was back in my "Shallow Hal" days. :D

Hello everyone,

I am "him" from all of Kim's posts. I have read this whole thread. While no man is ever fond of reading about the woman he loves dating other men, it has got to be the best thing that ever happened to me. I have always loved Kim since we first began to date. I have kept every email and memento along the way. From the second year on I told Kim I wanted to marry her.

The important thing here is that I wanted to thank all of you for your insightful, profound, and dignified comments about your own lives and the trials and tribulations in your relationships. Your advice has been general and subtle and for that I thank you very much.

Thank you again for carefully advising without telling or bossing. It is very apparent that Kimberly read your comments and advice and really figured this out for herself. I feel much better about that than someone just saying "you should do this" or "you should do that".

In this instance I am disappointed this is the internet because it would be more my style to thank each of you in person for what you have done and how you have done it.

Kim, you have a very wise, intelligent, and supportive group of friends here. Keep them around.

Thanks again!!!

Welcome and good luck to both of you! :)

I tried to stop him from posting but he insisted.

He & I are convinced that it was the many replies on here which made me re-evaluate my life.

If we got married, would this "count" as another POA wedding?

Welcome to the crowd. It's difficult to TELL someone you "should do this or that" All you can do is share what works for yourself. I hope you and Kim live long and prosper. :)

The million dollar question is: Have you got the flying bug as well and will it be a house of Two pilots or "One pilot and a normal person" in the house.

I disagree. It's all too easy to TELL someone what you think they should do, getting them to do what you tell them is the tough part.:D

That might be a pricey question but only from the perspective of how much airplane a couple is willing to afford. IOW it can work either way. Worst case is one is really hooked on flying and the other is dead set against it, hopefully that's not gonna happen here.

My degrees are mechanical engineering, manufacturing minor, operations managment minor, and math minor. In school my engineering elective was gas dynamics. I have a very clear understanding of wing dynamics and design (sub, super, and hypersonic speeds). Planes excite me but my interest is not prop planes but fan jets and mostly scram jets.

If I had the money to get my license I would, but, I know it would be a slippery slope as I would not be satisfied with prop planes.

So one pilot and one that is interested and understands but knows better...

Turn in your man card. Immediately.

LOL, Mecheng! Lucky girl is Ms. Kim. It's really good to have a Significant Other who is comfortable in a little airplane, likes the view from up there, knows where the radios are, could keep it right-side-up if necessary, understands both aviation theory and practice, but who isn't competing for the left seat, or the training dollars, and who's not trying to give unsought flight instruction.

My spouse is content to stretch out in the right seat and is often asleep before I get the second mag checked. But if he's awake, he'll reach up and change the transponder code as directed, look for traffic, spot the destination airport, point out some geologic feature...he's a very good companion. It was his idea that I indulge in my youthful fantasy and learn to fly in the first place, and his idea not to pursue his own license. He figured with his 24/7 schedule, he didn't have time to stay current, and truth be told, was entirely too sure of himself to be safe. So I was busy enough learning to fly (and looking after little people and my work, and a few other details) that I didn't have time to tell him how to do his job. That division of labor seems to have worked fairly well for us!

Until you start flying and find that a 65 HP cub with a wooden prop will do some amazing things. And it'll eat your breakfast lunch and dinner if you let it.

anyone else?

You got my vote... it was, after all, POA that led to your reconnecting.

And pay your first born to maintain it.

That's actually a great idea.... A baby is never worth more than the moment it is born. +/- $250k. Goes down quickly from there. Do multi egg processing and have a couple litters and start life out with a couple million dollar nest egg. That would finance a pretty nice aviation lifestyle....

Oh great, now you suggest flying welfare moms.

He wandered in here. Even after he was warned. He stated his credentials. Maybe he should have listened.

Think of it as having to 'prove' his worthiness.:rofl::rofl:

I'm always a fan of the Bernouli/Newton-Cause/Effect argument.

So he went ahead and did something of which you disapprove and your attempt to stop him was unsuccessful. FAIL x 2.

OTOH, isn't this typical!

Well I knew not everyone would be nice, like Sac asking him to turn in his man card. Oh, well, I warned him!!!

And no, the "in-laws" will not be posting. And they won't be our "in-laws" for a long time. This isn't something to just rush into.

The perfect relationship. After purchasing our Mooney my wife went through a MooneyMate course to learn some basics in the event of an emergency. I ended up with a backseat driver aloft in addition to on the ground!

Gas dynamics major + Blimp. Wow, a match made in heaven!

:) :) :) :) :)

If he's still reading this thread, I'll have to explain that whole "blimp" thing the next time I see him.

It will make for a funny story, that's for sure.

I don't think he knows I am "the blimp".

He does now... and you'll always be "Blimperly, the basic nightmare" to me.:wink2:
