Picking fly poop out of pepper

OK, guess I am a little dense this AM.

He'p me out here...

This thread needs a topic.

Yesterday, I was at an all-u-can eat breakfast brunch. I have never seen so many grossly obese people in my life! I think there should be a weight limit for people attending such fare. I did not see "normal size person there except the 2 other pilots I was with and the waitresses. Some of these grazers were 200-400 pounds over weights! It was like looking at hogs at the feeding troff! Picking up food with their bare hands while the tongues sat right there in front of them. I've seen cattle with better table manners. It was truly disgusting.... but the food was good!

Lets start our own health care preventive plan, outlaw all you can eat buffets, supersized to go meals, and sugar in soft drinks!!

There, now you have a topic.

You certainly do have a topic.

Lets look at this...

I now weigh 205 lbs. I used to weigh 140 (back in my twenties) Now personally I don't think I look that much different (obese) I do have a larger belly (mostly beer I think) and my waiste size has gone from 29-30 to 36.

Here's my question. I see these guys on UFC and shows like that who are incredible fit, and very well built. They weigh much less than I do. Muscle has always been said to be heavier than fat, so why is someone who clearly has much more muscle than I do, who is larger, and more physically fit that much lighter than I (talking 30 - 40 lbs by my height - 5'10")

I really can't believe I would have that much fat. If you were to meet me, you would never say I was overwieght.

Does the fat on my waist weigh that much, or am I really carrying around 20 lbs of matter in my intestines as the infomercials would lead you to believe.

Sorry for the gross thres, but you wanted something to talk about, and I really would like to know.

Not the greatest picture, but you can get an idea of my size from it.

Comedian Lewis Black says the greatest restaurant in the world is IHOP. Because no matter what you weigh, there will always be somebody there that's 150lbs heavier than you will ever be.

Dunno 'bout all that, but you hang out with pretty company! :D

That side, I have become amazed at the sheer numbers of genuinely obese people one encounters these days, and it has most notably gotten worse in the last fifteen years or so.

As for me, I am sort of shocked at how difficult it is to shed those twenty or so pounds I am carrying, almost entirely in my belly.

nothing worth talkin bout.

The thought/belief that this is anyone's forum other than our own is silly. It doesn't belong to one person anymore (remember, its been LLCified, IIRC), and it certainly doesn't belong to one small group.

Since we contribute to this forum, this forum belongs to the users.

That other thread, Richard, was blown way out of proportion, only because it appears that a moderator acted inappropriately (and not for the first time), by lying about his actions and intentionally violating an MC policy.

Let's see how it works out.

But calling it "their forum" is just dumb.

Well 60 pounds is 60 pounds - go look for a 60 pound can of lard and see how big it is, eh? You probably have it spread around all over so it doesn't look like so much.

Now, personally, I'm down about ten pounds from 245, but still have a long way to go (used to be less than 170, and am 6' tall.). I've already noticed some differences - it's actually easier to tie my shoes. Sheesh...

But, the other day I was at Meijer (local discount chain), and there is this rather large lady in one of those store scooters spending some quality time at one of the free sample hand out places. Later I saw her at another free sample spot. Seems like a bad combination. Free food, and a scooter so one doesn't have to waste calories by walking around the store. :nonod:

We done it to ourselves.

Pretty much what Nick said above in post #7 too. I gave some money when they asked for contributions to make the LLC. As such, I feel I can comment on poor moderation.

The more level-headed members of the MC are looking into this and will get back to us.

We all should wait for their findings. For example, I'll certainly apologize if someone is hacking one of the MC accounts (unlikely that may be).

I used to think that.

What you can see around your waist is an obvious sign of a problem that has become systemic. You have fat permeating your organs as well. Part of the shortness of breath you have attributed to carrying around extra weight is contributed to by the extra fat clogging up airsacks in your lungs and extra layers of fat under your ribs, all reducing your lung capacity. Your liver is changing from a rich red color toward a slightly greenish-grey hue as fat attaches itself. And your heart is becoming marbled with fat. Fat is building up in the spaces between your organs, squeezing them and pushing them out of shape. We all know about the danger of fat that is starting to build up inside the walls of your arteries.

How do I know this? I, too, need to get up and exercise back to a healthy fit size.

I need to lose more weight, but portioning seems to work for me. I think that is the real basis behind Jenny Craig, Weightwatchers, etc.

Same here. I haven't eaten dinner in a very long time (I think since Labor Day) and eat lightly for lunch. It is working, albeit slowly. If I get off my fat duff and get some exercise it will work better. Takes a lot of discipline, though.

Yea. That's how it works. And, if you stick to it, it does work (at least Weight Watchers). On the oher hand, if you sit down and eat half a jar of peanut butter every day, it doesn't work. At least, that has been my experience.:mad2:

Thanks for the horrible visual Aunt Peggy

Time for me to start working on it I guess.

If we are to keep this thread going, can one of the moderators rename it, or move it to a more appropriate sounding topic?

I'm new here and certainly don't want to go down in peoples memories as the disgusting guy with fat marbling through his heart and lungs... :)

At least from your photo you don't appear morbidly obese, and neither am I. You do not have to look like an underwear model to be basically healthy.

...but the rest of us appreciate the females that do.

I'm down 45 lbs in 18 months with Weight Watchers, including a 6 month plateau where I bounced up and down within a 6 lb window... very frustrating, but sticking with it and finally busted thru it.

As you can surmise from my avatar, I have recently had a physician draw these visuals for me. Getting back to my athletic size (110-115 lb):blowingkisses: is not even a concept, but I'm working to lose 60 lb.

I weighed-in this morning at 136 lbs(5'6"). All-you-can-eat buffets are great. China Rose, Brunswick, Maine, has been voted Best(in its category) for years. Yup; I can "pinch an inch," but I vary day to day between 136 - 140 lbs. It's been that way since I was a Junior in high school(1960-1961). Metabolism, I'm told. (I'm surprised I could spell it, let alone understanding it.) Friends(??) have told me that most of my fat is in my head.

HR (but it is amazing, the obesity of the attendees seen at the buffet tables, and they never neglect the dessert tables)

I hate your frakking gutz. Please die.

Cheap, good, abundant food is definitely a better problem to have than a lack of it. One can at least choose to limit food intake. In some not so fortunate countries, you can't choose to eat more food. There simply isn't any.

Wow what a topic after halloween when I have extra candy to get rid of... PUT IT DOWN!

Somebody above mentioned portion control. Spot on. A simple solution that works is to use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate at meal times, and leave white space between the food, and don't go back for seconds. You won't die, or go hungry. You will lose weight, when combined with drinking more water and walking more.

Harsh words indeed my friend!! As you know, I'm always working hard to pack on a few more pounds! :D

Gary

Obviously just a joke from the majority who pick up weight if they so much as look at a chiclet.

Yeah, I know, just couldn't resist ragging on you a bit. :blowingkisses:

Gary

Rag undeserved, as the original comments are too richly deserved. "Oh, I can eat anything and not gain an ounce". Die yuppy scum.

Gary's Patented Diet Tonic consists of organic petro-distillate vapors, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and ethanol. Try some, and you too will think "Cherokee 140? Yeah, I can put my family of four in there!"

Cheers,

gonna get punched at the Fly-B-Q next year

Best way to watch my weight is to always buy the same sized pants. If they get to feeling too tight in the waist, then I know I need to cut back on the calories some. Running 15 miles a week helps to.

I put 4 full grown adults in my Cherokee 140 and flew from Springfield Vt. to Burlington and back without taking on any fuel. That's over 5000 ft mountains. Of course, none of us were plus sized individuals, and we weren't carrying luggage. Still, it can be done.

AMEN! Portion control! When my bride (of 20 years) and I go out we split an entrée. The food portions in this country are simply obscene! There is enough fat and calories for 4 people in one meal!

Eating is not a sport! Put the fork down!

While we did this we remained svelt. These days I get my own entree, but I usually take half home.

Age doesn't help. I'm 43 now

When I was 24, I found my weight had skyrocketed (!) to 175. To get back down to 155, I dropped beer and pizza for 2 months, ran maybe 2-2.5 miles 5 days a week. That's it.

This past Wed, I ran 23 miles. I trained for triathlons all summer, right now I'm working on the Philly Marathon. On average I put in about 30mi running, another 20 biking, and 1-2mi swimming per week.

I eat whole grains, veggies, fruit - good stuff. NO juice, no soda. I've lost 20 lbs this YEAR. I still have 30 to go to get under the overweight BMI cut off. It's all about portion control now, but I still get po'd thinking about how much exercise I do (intense exercise - we're talking speedwork, serious pace) and how slowly the weight is coming off.

My legs are like iron. I can feel muscles that I didn't even know existed. And yet, that gut won't go.:frown3:

Caffeine... you forgot the caffeine!! Any yes, I can fit all four of us in the Cherokee, we're a bit mass-challenged.

Whoo man!!! That's a lot of work. Sure you really want to waste that many heartbeats on wearing out running shoes? After all, we have a fixed number of them.

Gary

It .. really does not work like that.

Here are a few things that might help. People are under the misconception that eating less is better. The best way to turn up your metabolism is to eat six or seven small meals a day. When you go down to one or two meals a day your Metabolism slows. Sure you'll lose weight at first but once your body realizes you're starving, it will try to hold onto all the fat it can.
Speed training (sprinting, shadowboxing, fast paced rope jumping) is the best way to burn fat. You continue to burn up to 48 hours after you're finished whereas slow pace training only burns for as long as you're exercising. You'll see the diference in appetite too. Hunger acquires a real sense of urgency!
Varying up exercises is very important. For example; doing situps will work for a while and you'll get results then you'll start to plateau. This is the time to find a new ab workout and attack the muscle group in a different way.
Try working out first thing in the morning before you eat anything. This burns fat cells straight away.
Just a few quick tips. Hope this helps.

I believe the theory is known as "physiological time", and the theory posits that a number of factors correlate heavily with body mass (taken over a species). They noticed it first in bugs, and then carried the research on from there.

YMMV, I'm just a corporate cog, etc, etc.

Cheers,

Eating less is one way to lose weight. If you take in more calories than you burn, some of those calories are stored as fat.

If you excercise (burn calories at least as fast as they come in), weright gain is stopped or reversed.

I'm not disputing the rest (spreading the calories over several meals or the excercise). But describing eating less to lose weight as being a misconception- I'll disagree with that statement.

The best combination is a reasonable caloric intake combined with reasonable excercise.

Im referring to crash dieting. One or two small meals a day. Not a reasonable diet. There is an unhealthy limit that crash diets exceed. This is why people who do these diets end up putting the weight back on and then some in a lot of cases. If your body is starving it will do what it needs to to survive.
