Photo Thead: Show Us Your Plane!

Not exactly. The J is the Department of the Navy designation for North American Aircraft. For Navy/USMC aircraft, the third letter is the manufacturer code.

B=Beech, also used for Boeing
C=Curtiss
D=Douglas
F=Grumman
J=North American
M=General Motors
N=Naval Aircraft Factory
S=Stearman
Y=Consolidated

A few others:

G=Goodyear
K=Fairchild
O, V=Lockheed
U=Vought

Obviously there were more than 26 manufacturers so there was a lot of duplication and inconsistency. It was a confusing mess by the time the unified Tri-Service military designation system was implemented in 1962.

Here is my plane and grandson following his first flight in it:

So, howzecome no one shows their airplane looking like this?
GEDC1676.JPG

Because they are too embarrassed to flaunt their nice powered hangar door? That's what I think every time I push mine open and closed, especially now that temps are in the high-90s and heat indexes are in the mid-100s.

Not fancy but lots of fun!

Straight tails are the best! (And Airplanes with vertical stabilizers the aren't slanted back are pretty cool too!)

Nope, doesn't count. Those are work planes and not "your plane." :D

Very true! (although one of them does have my name on it...) :D

I was just following along in the "planes I spend a lot of time with" post since I spend more with the last three than I get to spend with my Bo. :(

Hey, at least I started the post with pics of "my plane" right? :dunno: :)

This one's already in the thread once, but I took this pic just now, and thought it was worthy.... My wife over the runway 10 numbers at KBJJ...from the back porch. Cheapy 250mm on a Canon EOS. Life is good!
