I have a friend in Phoenix/Scottsdale area interested in getting their pilots license. They're open to either sport or PPL, as this will just be a hobby for him (works in 3d design/engineering). He's googled around a bit but most of the search results are the 141 schools, which are probably not a great fit.

Any recommendations on non-141 flight schools or flying clubs with CFIs in the Phoenix area?
 
It's been a few years but when we started wintering in Mesa, AZ I had a few refresher and check-out lessons (Sport Cert) at Falcon Filed (KFFZ) in Mesa.
