Got fancy ANRs for me and the wife, but my 20+ year old $100 headsets have crapped out and are falling apart. Looking for passive headsets for my passengers. Worth going for something like a DC 10-13.4 at 350, or are the $100 dollar-ish ones good enough. I almost always bring a friend so they get a fair bit of use.

I still have my DC 13’s from when I started flying 25 years ago. Replaced the mic cover a couple times. They do last.

I have a set of the ASA HS1s that I just rebuilt with all the fancy Oregon aero stuff. They're about, what, $60 used on the auction site? And another $50 for the ear seals?

That's close to $100 for something that ends up being pretty comfy.

Do you like your friends? Get a Lightspeed Sierra for them. It'll vastly improve their experience flying with you, and they'll still be able to hear the stories you're telling when you're all old. I don't subject anyone to passive headsets any more.

If you take multiple friends at a time, look at some of the cheaper ANRs. I can't recommend any any more, but Gulf Coast/Pacific Coast Avionics used to sell a Lightspeed-manufactured ANR for about $300 that was really a great headset. If you don't want to spend as much as a Sierra costs, that Marv Golden MG1 that @FPK1 suggested would be the first one I'd try.
 
I have 13.4’s for passengers, but also have a set that I converted to noise cancelling for myself and I love it. Very quality, well supported product that I assume are still built in the USA.
 
Hard to beat a passive ASA. I used one as a student and now use it for passengers. Inexpensive, rugged, simple, no worries about batteries, sounds decent, lifetime warranty. Adding cloth earphone covers will make it much more comfortable.

I give the passengers my old Bose first generation,or a set of Davis Clark’s.

Rugged Radio headsets are probably the cheapest on Amazon.
I have them in the back seats and they are not the most comfortable for giant cross country trips but they are durable and get the job done.
I think they are under a hundred bucks. They are worth the money.
