P51 Mustang composite LSA?

Great looking plane, but the sound system's taking things a bit too far
 
They look great, tough to build, and tough to fly. The LSA thing is a stretch, but what ever.

There is no sexier plane than a P-51, IMHO they are playing off that love. Just not a fan. :nonod:
 
The most apt word in the guy's sales pitch was "gimmicks"

I get the inspiration, but I don't get paying the carbon fiber premium for an airplane that wastes the incredible design potential of that material to lovingly reproduce a bunch of rivets and screws on an antique design template. And the "gimmicks"... meh.
It just screams "cheesy copy" to me, overall. Almost insulting to the original.

I'd rather build an RV4 and paint it to look like a Mustang (as many have). For 100K it could be IFR-capable with all glass, a helluva lot faster than this thing, and aerobatic... and there'd be a lot of gas money left over.
 
Let's see, build a Loehle 5151 for around $30K or buy this already built for $130K. Wood and fabric vs composite makes a bit of a difference unless it's the sound system and smoking stacks. :lol:

Even more to the point, far as FK's LSA's go, buy a 75% P-51 where half the firewall's taken up with a sound system and you've gotta spec it to keep it under 120 knots, or buy the FK-12.

It's a nice replica Mustang but to take it and make it fixed gear, fixed prop to get it below 120 kts isn't going to sell here. If they market it as an experimental, I'd still take a T-51 with the 200 HP Honda / Subaru engine doing 170 kts. You won't need engine noises with the "Mini Merlin" either. :)
 
For those so inclined, it's an exceptional scaled copy of a Mustang with good speed for only around 100 HP. Other models can achieve higher speeds for less money and are more in keeping with the original Mustang's ongoing appeal.

Other than as a possible airshow act of some kind, any other type of pilot that would actually want use the synthetic engine sounds and smokestack smoke routinely, would be so weighted down with their own BS, that the aircraft would never break ground.
 
I bet a ground loop with wing strike is expensive on a carbon fiber airplane.

I wonder if the "engine sound system" continues to run after an engine failure.
