One of my first assignments in test was validating NATOPS performance data for the TA-7C, which replaced the TF30 (dry) with a TF41 around the time I started. Digging back through old TF30 data I found the expected reports of compressor stalls and surges, along with a note that in the TA-7 the TF30 could not be reliably ground-started with more than 5 kt tailwind.T shirt worn by F14A pilots flying the TF30. “If it says Pratt and Whitney it better say Martin Baker.”
