Online "ground schools"..

I recently saw ads in aopa wesite for a live online ground school. They offer weekend seminars delivered by live instructors. The cost is reasonable compared to other seminars providers.

You may find them more helpful then most self study courses.

I haven't yet had time to check the online course against the Sporty's rep's claims... but Sunday another student let me page through his Jeppesen Private Pilot textbook and I have to say I was impressed with it. Much more thorough and in-depth, especially regarding the items of concern that I listed. I went ahead and bought one.

I used the King schools and got a 92 on the exam. Gleim does have a tutorial on the E6B if you google it.
