Well, I'm headed up to Wisconsin tomorrow to get my nieces for our annual trip: this year is Hawaii. I'll pick them up tomorrow and fly them back to Dallas on Friday. We'll fly out of here commercial on Sunday and be in the islands for about ten days. It's fun to work flying our own plane into the trip. We'll do a couple side trips to see family.

I'll try to check in while on the trip.

Best,

Dave

Hey Dave.. You don't happen to need a nephew to take on trips, do you? ;)

Have fun (I'm sure you will)!

Weren't you just in Hawaii a couple of years ago?? (he says with extreme jealousy)

Have fun, Dave. Tell everyone that we said hi.

My only question is, are you taking the P-Baron to Hawaii???

Chris:

If you've seen Dave's nieces, then you'd know: you don't want to be the nephew; you want to be the friend. Otherwise, you'd be flirting with your sisters!

LMAO!

Not sure how my wife would feel about that, though. I'm just in it for the trips at this point!

Yes, this is our second trip to Hawaii. We were planning on Europe this year and I was quizin Beth on neat places to go, but when the dollar dropped like a rock, we decided to stay domestic. We'll fly the P-Baron in CONUS and letting AA take us to the islands.

The girls seem to like going back to places they really enjoyed before. We did the Bahamas for the second time last year (in the Baron). It'll be nice to get outta here for awhile; the RE development bus is in the toilet. With all this political talk about change; I felt I'd go somewhere for awhile where I didn't hear as much about it <g>

I have a Army bud that served with me in RVN on Oahu; he was our battalion surgeon in the Cav. Retiring to West Virginia after this year; so, we're going as much to see him and his important other as to see the islands.

We'll be in Oahu for a few days, hop over to Kauai for a few days and end up in Maui. The Kauai visit is new for us.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Best,

Dave

You'll enjoy Kauai. After Maui it is our favorite island. Try the sightseeing flight offered by Tropical Biplanes (http://www.tropicalbiplanes.com/). My wife and I flew with them a few years ago. As the pilot said, "I fly slower than the helicopters do!" :D Great fun. We've also taken our one helicopter ride in Kauai. OK, we did it, but not again.

If you are looking for a place with big servings of beef that is non-pretentious (the reason for going is the food and the location), try the Bull Shed in Kapa'a. You'll have to look carefully for the sign. Not the best quality food, but quantity is great.

Best dessert on the island is at the Hukilau Lanai restaurant at the Kauai Coast Resort in Kapa'a. My wife absolutely loves their Molten Lava Cake. We were in Kauai in April and she had already declared that we were having dinner there the first night we were there simply so she could have that dessert.

11 trips to Hawaii and counting. You'll have a great time.

I am sooooo jealous.......I am NOT going to wish you fun, so there. :P :D

I'll print this and show it to the girls. So far, their number one dessert is on Maui at Leilani"s @ Whaler's Village--called Hula Pie. Don't know how biased they'll be, but we'll put it to the test

Best,

Dave

Safe travels, Dave. I'll be thinking about how much fun you'll be having while I'm here in Connecticut. :D

I have to go travel to Hawaii one of these days...

Ouch! That hurts Kaye! Wish a group of POAers could join us. But that wouldn't be fair to my nieces. This way they get UD's full attention (UD is Uncle Dave).

How 'bout if we have a piece of Hula Pie in your honor (our favorite dessert)?

Best,

Dave

Dave,

I look forward to hearing how many seconds it takes you to get off the ground en route to Honolulu.

have a great trip.

Well....they sure went well two years ago; hope they're kept that cache!

(O.K., I won't say anything--whispering under my breath).

Best,

Dave

Thanks for reminding me Tony. Yea the discussion about how many seconds it takes until liftoff (people always guess less than it normally takes) can really shake some folks up. 'Specially when after 30 seconds you look up and say--we really should be off the ground by now!!

We'll keep it low key this year. Would like to enjoy my last years of freedom rather than in club Fed!

Best,

Dave

Sounds like it'll be a great trip, Dave. Too bad you can't (or aren't) taking the P-Baron. Now that would be one amazing trip! Then again, precious cargo on board and that's a long flight over water. It is great that you get to do as much flying in the P-Baron as you do with them.

By the way, I will also volunteer if you ever need an extra nephew. ;)

Have a fun and safe trip!

Thanks Ted. Nice easy flight up to Wisconsin today. Heading back to Dallas tomorrow.

Troy:

I'll have to get a better description or a pic to you. Chocolate cake, ice cream; macadamia nuts and some other good stuff. We leave just before Noon tomorrow. I'll check back in when I can.

Best,

Dave

We had out first Hula Pie today. Pool of chocolate fudge; Oreo cookies crust; Macadamia nuts on vanilla ice cream and whip cream on top. I'll try to send a pic.

Sorry we haven't checked in a lot; had friends on Oahu and when we weren't shopping, we were doing things with them. We should have more leisure time here on Kauai.

Best,

Dave

Boy Dave, that pie sounds good. Hawaii is pretty neat. I know you're having a great time in the sun while we're dodging TS in the southeast.

Well, we had Hula pie after lunch; Lava cake after dinner. We have to admit, the Lava cake was wonderful. An informal vote after dinner resulted in 2 for Hula being the best and one for Lava! But there was a lot of discussion back and forth and the judges decided they would each try them both again before making a final decision <g>

Aloha,

Dave

Read your post about Hula Pie and Lava Cake to my wife. She smiled. I don't think she'd turn down either one right about now. Kauai, Maui, doesn't matter. Enjoy the Hula Pie at Whaler's Village when you get there. Always worth a return visit.

Hi Dave;

The Islands are so great and I know you are having fun out there. I remember the ground run in those early 707's or KC 135's. Yikes! lots of holding the breath. It is great to see you having fun.

The dollar has indeed been dropping! I remember when the euro was in the .80s... versus 1.6 territory.

Sounds like you are having a wonderful trip - and when I finally make it to HI I will be asking you the questions...

Nice to hear from you Beth!

We spent most of the afternoon walking through the National Tropical Botanical Garden yesterday. About 300 acres in size with a nice walking path through various areas. Many species were tagged so us non-scientists could understand what we were observing. We took lots of pics.

Dinner was at the Grand Hyatt Kauai; place called Donderos. Wonderful Italian restaurant. I had a crab, angel hair pasta dish that had wonderful preparation and was excellent; Shrimp Scampi for one niece and Sea Bass for the other. We had an excellent fresh fruit with whipped cream dessert I took a pic of.

The Hyatt had wonderful grounds! Large sweeping lobby, wonderful views of the ocean. Large pool with lazy river and a salt water lagoon. The beach at the Sheridan is much better, but if you're not a beach comber/snorkler, the Hyatt would be wonderful. We'll post a couple pics later.

Best,

Dave

Dave:

Can you believe that the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach has its meetings at the Hyatt? That, ny friend, was one heckuva make-up meeting, overlooking the surf.

...the guys with swelled egos like yourself dont exactly represent (To use your verbage) legitimate profesionals.
I hope you can move past your petty, insults and we can have a meaningfull thread on this subject.

you obviously have never met Spike. Even though he flies a bonanza, hes a prince of a guy.

Since you seemed so interested, we inquired at the Hyatt last night and there is a possibility mainlanders could be invited into that august group. The meetings sound great, the flight out and back would be a challenge. We'll be happy to act as a reference for you should you chose to sigh up:goofy:

Haven't been able to post any pics. We're traveling to Maui tomorrow, so, it may take some time. Today was waterfall day. Drove around to look at a couple very nice ones and at a light house. I'll check in later.

Best,

Dave

We were able to get the best Hula Pie we've found; took a couple pics of that and the sunset. Will try to post them tomorrow.

Best,

Dave

I'm glad you chimed in, Tony, else I'd have had to... I never saw the aforementioned SWA thread, but Frank is way off base calling Spike the things you quoted. I rarely form opinions of people based on their posts, but Frank did it for me just now with that one. Frank, wait til you meet someone and spend some time with them before throwing hurtful e-words around.

Dave--back on topic--GLAD you're having fun!!! Can't wait to see the pics.

His employer? :dunno: You just be referring to his wife, if anyone on that front. :)
