For the same reason there are 14 teams in the Big 10 and only 10 teams in the Big 12. The folks who run colleges aren’t so bright. They don’t understand either math or geography.

Last I checked there are 14 in the Big-10 (Penn State was #11 and they added Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers). Amusingly they also let in Hopkins (I can now say I went to a Big-10 school) as well.How many?
