I've never ever ever ever had a problem with SJC. I pass through there every time I go south. Last time was last night.

If coming from north or east, you can fly direct to downtown SF, and then transition through Class B west of Montara. This isn't usually a problem; with normal SFO ops, they just want you on the west/south side of 101. Failing that, you can transition Oakland. From OAK 29 numbers, fly across the San Mateo Bridge EAST of mid-span (the toll plaza may be easier to spot) and then cross the bay south of that, direct San Carlos, below 1500. aim between the lakes and climb over the pass. Another possibility further from Class B is to fly to Sunol Pass, descend to 2000 and cross the Bay over the Dumbarton Bridge. SJC airspace starts at the Salt Pile (it will be obvious) at 1500. Stay NORTH of the bridge to avoid PAO airspace, but south of the cement plant to stay out of SQL.

It's really a lot easier just to go through the Class B. The rest of it is all on the reverse side of the TAC. You aren't likely to get a Class B clearance east of SFO, as there is generally a long conga line flying down the bay. But other directions work better.

Well, unfortunately, I have have have had issues with them. Maybe they don't like Experimentals......

My detour to avoid them is all of 60 seconds longer than a direct route from Modesto to KHAF, keeps me at safer altitudes and reduces their workload by one. It doesn't take much at 170 kts. :yesnod: ....let's drop it and move on.

Weather looks to be great for flying and crabs... :yikes:

PS: for those that don't do KHAF often - for some reason the runway in use is almost always 30 and often that means landing with a quartering tailwind. Not a big deal but you need to be prepared. We used to question it after hearing the AWOS but it's more difficult to argue and try to fit in a landing on 12 between 3-4 other aircraft all using 30 :dunno:
 
I've never landed there with a tailwind. Crosswind, sure, but never a tailwind.

Sometimes the wind at pattern altitude is very different from the wind at the surface.

The runway is much wider and longer than one would expect for an airport of that size.

There IS a significant problem with people doing blind straight-in approaches to 30 with a rectal-cranial inversion. Heads UP when approaching to land. And use the right 45 even if it loses you 30 seconds. At pattern altitude, you're far enough above the terrain to clear it with an adequate margin, as long as you're not doing B-52 patterns. 30 has RIGHT traffic; don't get spooked by the mountain.

You seem to know much more about everything than I do. BUT....I go to KHAF a couple times a month and WE have had to land with a cross wind from the right rear quarter on several occasions as was the case during the Mavericks Sunday. Several commented on the radio about why we were using 30 when the winds were 060 at 7. But hey, what do I know, maybe it was my imagination :dunno:
Since that isn't the point of this thread how about we drop it and not hijack the thread with this?

Additionally, it is Dungeness crab season. Last year around this time, my CFI, several of her former and current students and me met at HAF for lunch and to wander among the crab fishing boats in the harbor. I was there last weekend and the price was around 6$/lb. for the crab. Kinda cool to look at the big containers of live crab.

My plane, as long as I still end up taking the 150 (some things have changed) is BRIGHT ORANGE.

Let me repeat: John, my plane is BRIGHT ORANGE! I have never seen a plane like it. I think it will be super easy to spot on the ramp.

I am familiar, but I think the rubber chicken should be your trademark and we should fly it like a flag from your tail. I happen to have some lying around the office. I will donate one.

I mean based on upper two photos. Ducks in a ring doesn't sound quite right.

So, that ring of chickens then suggests she has established the pecking order bwahahahahahahahahahaha

(EDIT: Yeah I looked closer, and read back further, those are indeed rubber chickens. You can tell by the feet and the bill. Yep. Most def.)

Here is my current duckie, forgot him on Sunday and had a sucky landing because he was not on the dash. I won't make that mistake again!!!

nah that started from the stories at the POA wings philly fly in RE: Babes and airplanes. The rubber chickens was started by the pilots at my airport. Both were "before my time".

If I like to fly with anything it would be pink stuff like pink aviation stuff but you just don't find that. I want a pink log book if / when I fill mine full.

Kimberly, "just the facts", as Detective Friday used to say on a very old TV show. I don't think I have ever seen you with anything pink and yet, there is much evidence that you fly with rubber birds.... just sayin'

BTW, I am not sure you could find many CFIs who would be willing to sign a pink log book. How could they take it seriously? It is probably even in the AIM (though admittedly, I have not checked) that log books should be black, blue (dark blue only) or brown. :wink2:

A CFI who refused to sign a pink logbook would be in violation of 61.189! :)

In every photo you see I wear a pink Casio stopwatch. Bought it for cross country training. And only wear it when I fly.
 
Speaking of pink, came to work and they had decorated my desk. We do this for each other for birthdays, but this time they left gifts. All pink.

I can't believe I now own a magic wand:
