Martina and I are already looking forward to the meeting. :)

What about Saturday afternoon, after the restaurant has closed?
We thought it might be fun to also fly somwhere else, after the 'official' flyin!?

Cheers,

Oliver

I am heading to Santa Barbara to pick up my son from UCSB (spring break). It might be a bit further than you are thinking about though (almost two hours in my Cherokee). Santa Barbara is beautiful, though, and it should be a great day for flying.

So as you can see, if all 8 of the people I questioned brought one or more passengers, my headcount would be way off. If I don't hear back in the thread I'll send some PMs. Thanks everyone for your reply, I'm just trying to save us the wait time. If I let the restaurant know how many in the morning they say they might have a table waiting for us at noon.

So I got an outlook weather brief. Mild to moderate turbulence, especially in the morning but "not as bad as today".

WTF?

Grumble. I hate hate hate turbulence.

It will be just like Disneyland, except you don't have to wait in line for the ride. :hairraise:

Well you're the one who said a low wing would be better for any wind issues at the destination airport. Thank goodness I'm in an Archer.

OK so I've never been to this airport. Just pulled up Google Earth. It appears the second runway is grass (?)

So I can't land on grass (rental agreement). Should I assume all traffic will be landing on the paved runway?

John - you will probably beat me there - perhaps you could text me after you land what the conditions were and what runway everyone was using.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Kimberly,
The grass isn't used this time of year and even in the summer it isn't used much. It will probably be 35, but if it is 17, don't forget that 17 is right traffic. I will text you. :)

If it is gusty, use one less notch of flaps and add about 5 KTS to your approach speed.

Oh that's right! For the first time (cross country) I have those awesome manual flaps! Like pulling the e-brake in my stick shift car.... only much cooler.

I don't think I can make this one, but I'm sure it'll be just as fun. See you all in summer when I am back from China.

I can't make it.:mad2: 17 is down hill. And kind of the calm wind runway. Not much action on the grass. It looks to be in fine Condition.

Hey all, it looks as though I will be solo.

I was actually hoping for some of the normal westerly flow that gets progressively stronger as you go up, for a nice tailwind on the way out there. The winds aloft forecast says nope. Just a mild northerly flow. I doubt it'll be bumpy.

I'm in an Archer too. Actually an Archer III. We'll have to have the world's slowest air race on the way back. ;)

o22 is, ah, fun in turbulence. I even posted a video a little while ago of a botched landing I had over there in gusty turbulent conditions - while nothing bad happened, I certainly had a nice little scare. Just be careful when you come in; in the anticipated conditions, 35 will suck you down pretty hard turning to final (a little like Novato which you're used to does on the same turn, Kim), whereas 17 will seem to want to run away from you as you're trying to come in low to compensate but the trees get in the way.

Oh, and while I get not landing on 11/29, do take off from it! it's fun to do and it's one of the best grass strips around.

Hey guys I can't make the fly-in today. Fly friendly and I will see you on the next one.

Sorry all, we will catch you next month - this is our last weekend to get organized for our wedding and my family visiting from Australia. So much to do! We'd rather be flying. :)

P.s. Yes Kimberly the cell phone service is fine up there, so you should be able to text.

Had a great time today everyone! Good to meet all those that I did. Big thanks to Kimberly for letting me tag along in the Archer. Hopefully I'll have my dang PPL soon and can join in on one soon in the C150.

It was a great day for flying. I had fun seeing everyone again and meeting a few new people.

My two cents:

1. Pilots - young and old. Youngest still in their 20's and oldest I'm not sure really

2. Pilots - new (student) through experienced (hundreds or perhaps thousands of hours)

3. Pilots - men and women! Kimberly and Martina - and if Jen attended - three PIC women!

4. Pilots - from all around - two from Germany, many others from all parts of the local SF Bay Area.

5. Pilots - from airplane renters and passengers - to airplane owners.

6. Perfect (and I do mean perfect) weather.

7. Easy access to the local town and restaurant. Table waiting and ready for us upon arrival, even though we had a big group and they don't take reservations.
