Did anybody else get this from FAA Safety?

https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2014/Oct/NEW_Sporting_Event_4-3621.pdf

Is this any different from the old one? Is the government in it's infinite wisdom going to tell me where all of these stadiums are located?

Just pure stupidity.

I called Lockheed Martin before I entered the bowels of the Los Angles airspace Saturday and specifically asked them about the Rose Bowl. The briefer said he did not have that information and to check the Rose bowl schedule.
Most of my flying is low level and I am often over unfamiliar territory so it would be easy for me to miss some event with a TFR.
What is the best way to find the sporting events that have the TFR?

By default, all NFL games, all MLB games, many college football games (Saturdays - the Big Name teams). Which means you need to know schedule and stadium locations.

[snarky mode]
Anything else, just keep an eye out for the F16s coming along side.

They don't have the information, but somehow they know when the games are so you can get busted...

Skyvector has been putting the stadium TFRs on the chart. But, if a game goes into overtime...

ForeFlight shows Stadium, NASCAR speedway, etc... TFRs.

Saw this, got the one for the Disney TFR too.

One of these days someone is going to be able to explain to me why Mickeytown requires National Defense Airspace.

Ummm.... lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of people?

Same reason sporting events do, because they don't get a cut from advertising by banner towing.

It's nice when they do, but you can't count on it.

Today, a little more than 24 hours before Game Six of the World Series in Kansas City, Foreflight shows a future TFR at Kauffman Stadium; while Skyvector shows nothing there.

A preflight briefing is now a two-step process. (1) Call AFSS; (2) call ESPN.

Actually the "Mouse House" first asked for a TFR because of the laser light show at EPCOT back in the early 80's... They then realized it prevented banner planes from flying over to lure customers away to visit Sea World and other attractions in the Orlando area..

All that was left was to pay off some politicians and walla... A permanent TFR... Pretty clever I must admit..:mad2::mad2:

LM doesn't have the information (which IMO is truly stupid), but the local ATC does.

It essentially makes flight following mandatory. Note that if the local ATC somehow didn't know about it, you would be fine because you're under positive ATC control inside the TFR. Unlike VIP TFRs, stadium TFRs do not require a flight plan, nor do they exclude training traffic. Heck, KOAK would have to close every time the A's played otherwise (trust me, they don't -- and the airspace is a total zoo during a game).

THE RESTRICTIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE DO NOT APPLY TO THOSE AIRCRAFT AUTHORIZED BY AND IN CONTACT WITH ATC FOR OPERATIONAL OR SAFETY OF FLIGHT PURPOSES….

Wild guess but I think they wanted to include UAVs.

What a stupid system the FAA has created with stadium TFRs. They can't give you a list of them beforehand, but they still discipline you for a bust.

Does the average small drone operator even know what a NOTAM is?

Quick read says it's just a reissuance of the ten year old previous stadium NOTAM.

That's what I got out of it. They reissued the Disney CA TFR too, no changes, just changing dates that I could catching a speed read.

Local ATC may not have a clue that the game is over or the NASCAR race is complete or at what time it completed. (TFR active until 1 hr after event is completed)

Read the NOTAM. If local ATC doesn't have a clue, it's their problem.

Can anyone cite a case where someone was "busted" for violating one of these? Just curious.

And to think those idiots used to have a runway out behind the place for folks to fly in... And they make two animated movies about aircraft and show one at OSH.

Dumb-***-keteers need some sense beat into them with a clue-stick.

I have a friend with a gyroplane that was giving a friend a tour around Austin November 4, 2014 and was busted for a Stadium TFR.
According to him even Austin Bergstrom International Airport didn’t have it listed but they sent a police helicopter after him never the less.
He was about 2.4 miles from the stadium.
I don’t know how low.
He filed an ASRS report and it appears to have gone away.

One of the nice things with XM or ads weather, it shows all the TFRs on your map.

I researched a Stadium TFR the other week for a flight, seemed to be less of a deal than the 30 mile 'VIP TFR'. Tower just told me, no touch and goes, no loitering, for the most part.

I did call FSS beforehand, he didn't have much to say besides, 'call local ATC'.

I was overjoyed that the TFR was updated because it'll keep us all safe. The terrorists will never harm us with that mountain of words protecting us.

(Note: sarcasm)

On flight following to KISM you get routed over mickey all the time below 2500. You get some great pictures!

The Ames, IA airport is within 3 miles of the Iowa State Stadium. According to DSM approach, when Iowa State plays, they have a controller checking the status of the game to see when it's over. They also are in contact with the state police who have an aircraft at the event. So they are definitely aware of when the game and TFR ends. May be different at other facilities.

I'm told that they've become much more strict about these in the last couple years. Apparently people used to get away with flying through, but recently they've started busting people. I don't personally know anyone who's be busted for violating the stadium TFR.

GarminPilot on my Nexus can show where the stadium TFRs are, but doesn't show when they are active. AFAIK, the pilot has the responsibility to know and find out, not the briefer. We have multiple professional stadiums, NASCAR speedways, and college stadiums in and around KC. Even then, not everyone is enough of a sports fan to remember who's in town, and when, especially during college football season where the airport is within the 3 NM range of the stadium.

I plot a course, then verify when and where the TFR rings might be, then have to check.

I am planning a flight to the Palm Springs Aviation Expo and saw that Weathermeister does show the potential TFRs if I zoom in on the chart. It says to check the schedule.None of them were live so it might list them when they are. I am glad to be able to at least know where they might be.
Skyvector did not show the possible TFRs and that is what I have been using for flight planning.
I find it very helpful to have access to so many experienced pilots on this forum.
Thank you for helping me to become confused on a higher level.

Flight following is your friend with these TFR's. All of them will state if in contact with ATC, no worries.

Flying around the south on Saturday afternoon the controllers will give the scores to the SEC games if the frequency isn't busy.

Buy a Nexus 7. Put Garmin Pilot on it. Set the setting to show stadium VFRs.
Tada! Problem solved.
BTW: In addition to being informational, I thought we could liven things up by baiting the AppleAddicts into telling us how much better it works on their new Big Macs.

^-^

But...it doesn't show when they are active, just the locations. I'll double check in about 40 minutes, 1 hr prior to Game 6.

Are there any uncontrolled fields inside one of these TFRs?
