New Stadium TFR?

How does that work? Is there a a "unless necessary for takeoff or landing clause?"

Get ForeFlight -- it shows the locations in yellow, and turns them red when they're active.

Based on estimated times. That baseball game goes into extra innings and ForeFlight switches back to yellow based on a 9 inning game? You busted the TFR.

That TFR data for sporting events doesn't come from the FAA. It's unofficial data, so one shouldn't make flight decisions based solely off of FF's indication.

So are you allowed to switch to the CTAF to land at an uncontrolled field? ;)

I don't think there are many (if any) uncontrolled fields within 3mi of a stadium where the TFR might be, and ALSO outside a Class B/Class C.

6G8, ARB (class D) are all I found in about two minutes looking in the local area.

KLWC (Lawrence, KS) - the airport is 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the stadium TFR. I think KIOW (Iowa City, IA) is right in the middle of the TFR.

I'm sure there are others.

The Ames, IA airport is within 3 miles of the Iowa State Stadium. According to DSM approach, when Iowa State plays, they have a controller checking the status of the game to see when it's over. They also are in contact with the state police who have an aircraft at the event. So they are definitely aware of when the game and TFR ends. May be different at other facilities.

The straight in approach to rwy 6 at KPUW goes right over the stadium at Washington State University. We get a good view of Horizon Q400s when the timing is right and a nice twin came over during the game last Saturday. I don't worry about the TFR as we're in our seats during the game, but being in contact with ATC is your ticket to not worrying about it.

That's correct, KIOW Iowa City is inside the 3 NM TFR ring for the Univ. of Iowa stadium.

KLAF (West Lafayette Indiana) is about 2 miles from the Purdue football stadium, so that would be inside their TFR, I believe.

BTW, stadiums that close to an airport can be a good thing, if you want to go to a game and not worry about ground transportation. When I went to a game at Purdue, the FBO gave me a ride to the stadium before the game, and after the game I walked back. Worked great.

I think I noticed in this one it said UAS and Remote Control airplanes...

Plenty. Both UIowa (KIOW) and Iowa State (KAMW) conflict.

I went to KAWG instead of KIOW recently due to the stadium TFR - I specifically read it looking for the ATC exception and didn't see it. Then they reissue and I see the exception again. Maybe that was one of the changes?
