What do you have to do to stop your fuel from gelling up in temps like that? Is there a Diesel prist?

Yeah, kind of. There's an additive in diesel that's sold in the winter up here in the great white North. If you buy fuel down south and head north, it would be a very good idea to dump a bottle of Howe's Lubricator fuel treatment into the tanks...

Also, the truck is feeding the overflow from the injector rails back to the tanks to keep the fuel warm. My APU does the same, for one tank. In fact, I think the APU actually has a heated probe for that tank as well.

I believe there are some trucks that are operated in the colder climates that have tank heaters, too. Brrrrrrr.

BTW, sitting in GFK now, and while they're unloading, the truck's engine temp has gone down from its normal operating temperature of just a hair over 175, to about 130. WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING.

Well that explains why the trucks keep their engines running in the cold. My dad had told me it was to keep the fuel warm, but I could never figure out how that work. I was thinking the fuel tanks were too far away from the engine to get any benefit from radiant heat.

Thanks. For a Packer fan you're ok ;)

just when i thought it couldn't get any better.....

BBQ and swimming party at my house tonight! Bring a jacket it might get chilly tonight. 60s you know.

Just keep it up Mr. Driggs, I am not stooping to do childlike replies. But, When you get home tonight I hope your mother runs out from under the front porch and bites you on the leg. Bob :)

Way to go, Frank! I was thinking about you today as I saw other bikers on the road. Our low last night was 54° and I'm showing 74°F on the back porch right now... just a few days after -18°F lows and single digit highs! Now THIS is Colorado as I know it.

Good job! Like Greg, I was also thinking of you as I noticed LOTS of bikes on the road the last two days. It's about 60 here today.

All the local riders have all been antzy to get out on the road again for about 6 weeks now. About a two weeks ago when the roads weren't completely offensive I saw one of the older BMW's riding while it was snowing. I guess he had reached his limit and just had to get out.

Last night was 43F. The high today was 57F. During the ride it was 45-50F. The only real complaint is all the ballbearings (aka sand) on the road. No ice even in the shaded areas.
Weather permitting, tomorrow I intend to try to ride again.

Yay Frank! Back to one of the things that makes you happy. :)
