Challenging, yes. Near fatal? I think not.
Because they'd prefer to reuse the aircraft without undue delay...why are they landing with wheels?
why are they landing with wheels?
Meh, not impressed. I can do that during calm winds.
Looks like a pretty wild ride but wouldn't say "near fatal". Wild video for sure, but overall, I would say not exactly a well written article. I liked the "delivering a 60-degree crosswind component with which the crew attempted to contend".
Question for the airline guys. I know some of the planes I've been pax in have automatic spoilers, as soon as the mains touch, the spoilers pop up to dump lift. Is this indeed automatic or is it pilot controlled? In this instance the 37 banged the runway pretty hard, yet was off the runway again immediately. Obviously, automatic spoilers would have stopped the aircraft from going around, and the in the vid they didn't deploy. Just wondering how all this works.
Their title.
Yes, I was mocking the journalists, not you!
Like @denverpilot said, most all big airplanes work like the 737 above. Armed and WoW or Wheel spin-up, throttles (thrust levers) in idle, etc. I’m guessing that the reason these didn’t deploy was because the crew was already going around when they touched. Throttles were out of idle, so no spoiler deployment.Question for the airline guys. No journalists were involved in the writing or publishing of that article.Yes, I was mocking the journalists, not you!
Looks like he missed the fourth one too!Damn, he missed all three wires.
Guess I know where I rank now since I'm lucky to get a near-normal appearing landing...I thought all landings were near fatal.
It just because all of us super stud super pilots that makes landings appear normal....
LOL! I gotta admit I lost a lot of respect for Flying Magazine when they fooled me with that craptastic title & article. No journalists were involved in the writing or publishing of that article.
They deploy once the plane has WOW (weight on wheels & others req'ts) so they are automatic in that sense, but I believe most jets can deploy them manually also.
I wish they were.No journalists were involved in the writing or publishing of that article.
