This powerpoint has made the rounds before, but I still like it... it amazes me how the pics can bring back the sounds and smells like it was yesterday.

(at least one, if not two "surprise" obvious photoshop pics slipped in there)

It is nice...I think I saw 3 oddities in it...one looked like an F-16 to me but I don't pretend to be fully knowledgeable in aircraft ID.

I remember when that skit first played on SNL. Back when it was funny. Thanks!

I was on DDG31 USS Decatur Guilded Missle Destroyer as shown in the back ground of some of those pics, except we had sails & oars.

Oh the Lingo......

Cat, TOW, the pak, JBDs, Vanzell, o3 level,

I don't miss that at all. those carriers have a smell all their own.

want to know what its like?

place a pound of old grease into a plastic sack, add an old pair of sweat socks, pis- in it and allow to set in the sun a week, open and take a big wif.

no number of trips thru the laundry would get that smell out of your clothes. In fact, I think the laundry compounded it!.

GQ, mess decks, sliders, bomb elevators next to berthing, arresting gear screaming, cat shots slamming ... and somehow you learn to sleep through it, or tolerate it.

One looked like an F-16 to me, too. And that C-17 low pass looked like it had some help, too. Nice PP presentation, however.

The C17; the very first slide looked like it had a statue or something on the deck.

The best words I ever heard the 1MC say........

"Liberty Call, Liberty Call, The Brow is down , Let the air wing off load commence."

The Yellow thing ???????

That's the Tilly (sp)

2 things:

That SPAD on final looked like artwork, not a photo.

I had no idea Steve Stevens (guitarist for Billy Idol) collaborated with Faltemeyer on that TopGun song.

It still looked good. People do a lot with Photoshop and digital photos.

As for the Topgun "anthem" - I remember after my PPL check ride taxi-ing in, the DPE had a phone call on his cell- that song was his ring tune- I almost think he had someone call him as I came in- too much of a coincidence. I didn't mention it since the prop was still turning and I was parking/shutting the plane down (IOW- I was still "flying").
