What is the longest that a person should reasonably be on the phone?
I googled it and couldn't find any suggestions.

I'd say that would have to depend on the circumstances. I can recall some calls that lasted several hours and I wished for more, but some were too long at 15 seconds.

The answer depends on the person. If you ask me, 1 - 15 minutes. If you ask my wife, she'll say until the phone's battery runs out. Then she switches to another phone.

My longest phone call was over 8 hours.

If you're playing "FlightControl", then 3 hours.

If it's for the purposes of communication, then 15 seconds should be enough time to type a text message.

I've been on conference calls that lasted multiple hours. I've also told solicitors to F-off in a matter of seconds.

I guess as long as it takes to accomplish the call's purpose.

Other than some lengthy business calls, I don't recall making many calls that lasted more than 15 minutes or so. I'm not the kind to call "just to say hello." I usually have a specific reason for calling.

Sometimes people call me "just to talk," which is something I accept because I do put myself out there as an available ear. But sometimes these calls take longer than it would have taken for them to just come over and visit in person (or vice-versa) and share a cup of coffee. I'd actually prefer the visit to the call.

One of my adolescent nieces has a habit of calling adult family members at night, saying "hello" and exchanging the usual pleasantries, and then leaving the phone next to her on speaker while she does her homework, watches TV, or whatever else she's doing. Every few minutes she'll ask, "Are you still there?" If not, she'll call back. She'll reluctantly hang up if told that the call recipient has something to do, but then she'll call another adult family member and do the same thing. I don't get it.

Same here except that I can't remember having made that lengthy a business call either. Now that I think of it I don't think I've ever in my life talked for over an hour on the phone....
