NA - Denver Multiple Shooting

BOTH

...but I don't think it makes a difference to the victims. Terror is Terror! Let's call it what it is.

Yes, but not all terror is terrorism.

I've noticed that whenever it's one of our own good ol boys, the media sugar coats it into "madman", "crazy nut job", etc. to make it a little more palatable to the masses. Reserve the T word for the middle eastern people and Muslims.

That's done by design to keep the American people in a constant state of fear of the foreign boogieman! We need to wake up and start getting a handle on all of these domestic terrorist that are in our own backyard!

This SOB is a terrorist and should be treated just like Al Quida! Agenda? Yes, his agenda like those before him, was to get worldwide recognition and go into the history books by inflicting pain and death to innocent victims via terror tactics! He even went so far as to boobie trap his apartment in order to kill the police officers!

Let's stop the bs and start treating these "madmen" just like we treat the Arabs...and we can start by using the same terminology.

My understanding is that terrorism is the spreading of terror to advance a political agenda.

Not necessarily.

"An abiding characteristic is the indiscriminate use of violence against noncombatants for the purpose of gaining publicity for a group, cause, or individual. The symbolism of terrorism can leverage human fear to help achieve these goals."

What is a "terrorist activity?"
Under the Patriot Act, terrorist activities include:

• threatening, conspiring or attempting to hijack airplanes, boats, buses or other vehicles.

• threatening, conspiring or attempting to commit acts of violence on any "protected" persons, such as government officials

• any crime committed with "the use of any weapon or dangerous device," when the intent of the crime is determined to be the endangerment of public safety or substantial property damage rather than for "mere personal monetary gain"

So with all due respect to the Governor, this guy is a terrorist. Not in a "funny" way but in fact! Ain't a damn thing funny about it!

Yeah I know (ain't isn't a word).

For someone to finally get around to using the T word after all this time, and then say "in a funny way". is more of the sugar coating that I was talking about! That's the fundamental problem in the thinking in our society! We need to get out of that if we're going to grow as a nation!

I expect that this nut job will plead not guilty by reason of insanity. The law should change to "Guilty by reason of insanity". Let the judge make the appropriate determination AT sentencing. This would give them the flexibility to jail the nut jobs for life or any other punishment as needed.
I submit that anyone who commits a violent crime must be crazy. Fear of punishment keeps sane people from breaking the ruls. This we learn when we are very young. Anyone who commits a capital crime has no fear of punishment.

If I understand Colorado law correctly, if it goes the insanity route he'll be incarcerated in a state mental hospital until the medical management of the hospital deems him fit to rejoin society. As things work now, that means essentially for life. There's little chance of getting free of the Colorado system once a person has done enough to get themselves sent there by a court. In other words, it's not easy to get in and darn near impossible to get out.

Here's an article which addresses this subject. The author is a neuroscientist who has written quite a bit about neuroscience and the law.

Yes it does. Why did it take so long? Should have been called that from day one..on every news outlet!

Jesse Jackson called them that on day 1. Saw a TV news snippet that showed him calling them "domestic terrorists", followed by a statement seeking gun control.
