This is what I saw in the link you included:

One American liter (33.8 fl. oz.) of alcoholic beverages may be included in your returning resident personal exemption if:

So I am guessing an American liter is 33.8 oz?

Last time I drove through Canada,(last March) I was never asked if I had any liquor.

How many American Liters in a Canadian Gallon?

I have a funny feeling that they won't even ask unless they look and see you and 47 cases that have "booze" printed on the side. I've done the AlCan twice and at least 2 dozen trips across the boarder in 3 different provinces and have never been asked about booze.

An American liter is the one with the "r" at the end versus the British litre. Makes a huge difference.

One time I went through Canadian Customs with a case of beer.

They made me pour out EVERY bottle into the ocean at Nanaimo.

Seems they were supporting the beer makers union, as they were on strike.

A 'Canadian' Gallon (actually 0.936 of an Imperial gallon, but who's counting)

Fun piece of trivia - the United States officially converted to the metric system in 1975 under president Ford. I understand there is a sign to that effect outside the NIST in DC. The sign measures 3' x 5'.

There's more freedom in an American liter

MERICA!

Well I set him straight on the liter/liter thing (an Am liter is 0.79853 US quarts, btw - and a litre is 1.1153 US quarts).

Funny he didn't take it well, missed my flight and had all sorts of bogus questions, rifled my bags, huge scene with the TSA. No sense of humor whatsoever, especially after I offered to share my Canajan booty in return for lettin' me through - what's with those guys; so uptight.

Customs is only interested in collecting their duty on alcohol. So long as you don't make it a habit of crossing with dozens of bottles a week, a couple probably won't get you into trouble. I came through Logan from Scotland once with 13 bottles between me and my companion. While customs did raise their eyebrow, they send us on our way.
Remember, 13 bottles probably amounted to less than $30. I doubt it's worth the time to collect their vig.
