N. Korea GPS jamming hits S. Korea flights: Seoul

Never thought of it like that...

Oh, most definitely a very real possibility and almost certainly part of the internal dynamic. The only question really lies in the motivation and frame of mind behind it; initial appearances are not promising though.:nonod: He doesn't look particularly stable in any of the pics/video I've seen.

I think it's more a matter of extortion. "Give us money and food, or we'll start shooting."

That is the wisest thing said thus far in this thread. Lots of bluster. Bomb test. Oh, we'll stop for food and technology! Missile test, same thing. They've been doing this for decades because they know it works.

I doubt the North Koreans are the only ones developing technology to sideline GPS. Given how dependent on it our weapons systems have become, it is a very logical target.

North Korea is a run by a criminal regime, sort of like the Nazis writ small. Actually, calling them Nazis is an insult against Nazis. The aims of the North Korean regime are it's own continuation and the enrichment of those within the inner circles. That's it. They truly care not one whit about the Korean people. Hitler at least cared about the German people when things were going well. I really don't think he would have let them starve had it been in his power to do otherwise.

Can they turn Selective Availability back on in a specific location?

The military can disrupt GPS anywhere, any time. What the military cannot do is restore GPS when it's disrupted. Right now, it's being disrupted.

Selective availability or denial won't change that. The issue isn't preventing the DPRK from having GPS access. It's them preventing our access.
