Fellow pilots,

I engage on a social network called APSense.

Recently I befriended a 3 star general named William Caldwell. Everything looks legit, picture, location, informational background.

However, his email letters are full of mis-spellings, grammatical errors, and very poor English. If I didn't know better, I would say it was someone else with his identity.

The email I received had broken English and reminded me of someone from a different country.

I googled him and the picture and information agree with what he has told me. He has taken a position as President of a college since retiring. His email return address says "Army Commander" with a Europe email.

I would think a Lieutenant General would be an example of an educated person with excellent communication skills.

You opinions please.

I'm shocked that there is fraud on the internet.

But you can help fight it. Simply send a donation to my anti-fraud foundation! PM me for info.

Thanks,
Terry

Only one way to find out, wire him $5,000 in his name and see if he has the necessary credentials to collect it

Does he have a Nigerian accent?

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and smells like a duck. Well, you know.

I am thinking it isn't passing the smell test.

If you can google and find all the info, so can anyone else. Perhaps a quick phone call to the school? Let them know someone online may be impersonating the general?

Any time you suspect a scam, just bring up your favorite internet search tool like Google and type the topic followed by the word scam.

For this situation, "William Caldwell scam" brings up a lot of results.
