My New Toy Came Today!!!

Dan- I know someone that rides in winter around the ACY/PHL area. They have electric gear that plugs into the motorcycle to . I don't know how cold she's (and her group) ridden though so I don't know the effectiveness of such gear.

I came close to it, but the Goldwing kept falling over in the ice.

Football players have a cooling system that goes under the pads. I think it pipes cold water through some sort of manifold. While on the sidelines, they just hook up to the water pump and enjoy. I'd be suprised in this day and age if there is not something similar for the motercycle crowd.

need a mini HVAC system plumbed through the leathers. how hard could it be? a little intercooler, quick disconnect hookup to the coolant system on the bike.
My bike has no coolant system -- and the coolant systems that are on bikes would be rather hot.

Once you get moving, you usually are just fine so long as you have mesh gear. Even on 85+F days, I'm happy so long as I have my mesh gear on and on the highway. It's that low speed stuff that gets bothersome.
It depends. I can do 80 degrees with gear. 85-90 and up I can do for awhile. But if you're riding for 10 hours at that temperature I tend to get dizzy and sick towards the end. A camelbak helps with hydration but even then it still gets to me.

Once it is to the point that I am losing my "edge" from being so hot I start shedding the gear. I never remove the helmet.

the coolant through intercooler would be used for heat in the winter. i guess we'd need a compressor for AC in the summer.

dont spoil my fun!

All of my bikes were air/oil cooled. If I got one today it would definitely be water cooled. The newer technology is amazing.

thats good. closed casket funerals are just weird.

They do actually make shirt thingies that you can soak in water and allow to cool evaporatively. I've never used one. I can count the number of times I've been too hot on a bike at speed on the fingers of one hand.

Crossing Mississipi in July after departing Minnesota the day before without sleep is *FREAKING HOT*. Even worse when you get stuck in traffic for a hour on tar without moving.

I've said I rarely get hot at speed. Your results may vary. There are reasons I tend to avoid the deep South.
